10 things I never knew about planning a wedding

1) I had no idea how to go about making a budget ad paying for a reception. I figured it was a pay as you go type of thing. I seriously thought they would try to hit us with a finance charge.
( do people put finance charges on this? )

2) I had no idea how much a wedding dress would cost. I loathed looking. I expected to pay 3 times what I am actually paying, so that was a sweet surprise!

3) I have no idea what pre cana is. My FH is catholic and I am just glad I talked him out of a church wedding.

4) I did not know what the duties of a maitre D were. I wanted he/she to butt out, I can do it myself.
( thankfully i have come to realize that maitre D's should be drafted as saints)

5) I never knew how over inflated the cost of something gets when it is provided for a wedding.
Now when I book a vendor, say a LIMO, I don't feel the need to disclose my wedding.

6) I had no idea what a bustle was.

7) I had no idea people had engagement parties.

8) I never knew a wedding shower was supposed to be a surprise.

9) I never knew how to properly address an invitation or a thank-you card.

10) I never realized how nasty people would be to me when I told them i was about to get married......or how many antecdotes and words of psuedo-wisdom I would have to endure. BOO

there is seriously a lot more than this, these are just he most amusing in IMO

your list was great. I was surprised at most of the things there as well especially the hiking of prices as soon as wedding is mentioned!

lol, why were you appauled? Was it the ceremony? or the plastic table covers? Was is the teenage DJ, and the fruit cake served at the cavernous VFW Hall that smells like old people while staring at a bingo monitor on the wall

I have taken on a brideZILLA mentality. I am really tired and brow beaten, and I can't explain it to people and make them understand what all this planning s.u.c.k.s from your SOUL.

I agree with lots of these..sometimes things get so out of control with weddings. One of FH GM keeps tellling him theres no reason to get married cause he is divorced and that everything will change and I want to kill him!!! We have lived together for almost 5 years now so what is going to change!!!

he will be married and his b/f will still be divorced, that's what will change.

Funny Story........i wish this wasn't true

when FH and I started dating , one of his good friends told him that Saturday is 'guys night out' and not 'date night'. If i wanted to go out on a saturday he was instructed to tell me it was 'guys night out'. You know what, he did. He told me that. I laughed in his face. I said, "that's ok, I have friends too"

Guys night out didn't last long

I'd like to add something to this list.

I never knew that planning a wedding....would give other people who are NOT giving me any money for it, the right to tell me HOW to plan my own wedding. This has got to be the MOST frustrating thing thus far.

I think more than ANYTHING else, the thing that bugs me most is the "well we didnt' do that", "I didn't have one of those", "you don't need that"....I don't careeeeeeeeeee, this is my wedding and that's why I get to choose what I want.

Absolutely. I went to my cousins wedding in Kansas, and while it was very nice, it was in the basement of a church and had the really long rectangular tables and folding chairs like they use for Bingo.
