question

now that you have been married for a little bit...looking back on your wedding...was it worth it to spend as much as you did? just wondering if in the grand scheme of things, this is all worth it. I started off just wanting to marry the love of my life...and somehow...we're spending alot more than i ever thought. It's not alot for a wedding in most nyer's eyes...but to me...I can't help but think "this is what i make in a YEAR!!! we could use that to start a family?" should i just say "you only do it once" and go for it? or should I try to go cheap-o on what vendors i have left?

Re: question

We spent a lot of money as well. We did not skimp on vendors and we have not one regret.

However, it is my opinion that if a person puts themselves or their families into debt for a wedding, then they are spending beyond their means. All we had left to pay for after our wedding was the balance of the honeymoon and that did not take more than two months. We did a couple of upgrades on our albums but we had the money to do it. If you dont have the money off the bat, then consider scaling back. Otherwise you can start your marriage off with financial issues and those are often the hardest to overcome.

Re: question

if i had to do it all over again i would have done it on a beach at sunset on a tropical island with just our immediate families...that way we'd already be on our HM too!

wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much money was spent on things that i dont even remember! i would've taken all of that money and put a down payment on a house. but im one of the few brides that would change what they did. but i think its because i never wanted a big wedding to begin with.

Same for us. We cut back costs by DIY projects, making the wedding a more personal event for our guests/

Re: question

in all honesty, it's one day (hopefully lol) that u only get to do once, and the only one u get to look back on. We didn't go overly crazy, but of course, weddings in general come with a cost. We had the wedding of our dreams, and everyone still talks about how beautiful it was. I am SO happy we got to have an amazing day to look back on..and i wouldn't change a thing(except maybe splurge more & book pennylane for video! lol). ANYWAYS, so of course - u dont have to go crazy, but dont settle. It's one day out of ur entire life, and besides having children, probably the most important & the most special. Dont' have any regrets & have the wedding of ur dreams

Re: question

DH & I stuck to our budget bc we knew that even though it was our wedding & we only did it once, we didn't want to spend a fortune since we were paying for it ourselves & we had just bought a house 7 months before. I think & still get comments that our wedding was spectacular & we didn't spend "a lot" by NY standards. DH & I picked what we truly wanted to spend the most $$ on & that was the reception hall & the band. As long as you have good food & great entertainment, your guests will be happy. Looking back now, I would not have changed a thing about it & would do it again in a heartbeat & spend the same.

Re: question

I spent as little as possible to have the best wedding possible and we did.

I wish it wasn't as expensive as it is, that's for sure. but low balling it and then not being happy would have been MORE wasteful, IMO.

spend what pennies you do have wisely.

good luck and congratulations!

Re: question

We did spend a lot of money. No regrets, with that!

but we both wish that we could have invited more people to our Wedding. We only had 160 people.
