WITH EXPLAINATION NWR: my friend from work is having a "coming out party" for her son...
My friend is Chinese, and apparently this is something they commonly do. Someone told me that family members will give a red envelopem with money in it.
But i dont know what I should give? or if money how much i should give?
Plus she also had a baby shower that I attended. My 3 friends and I chipped in and bought her stroller
ETA:
HAHAHHAHAHA you girls are sooo funny...
from what i understand its a party that they have when the baby is 1 month old. Its a way of introducing the baby to friends and family

Also very confused....is this a coming out of the closet party or coming out like in a debutante kind of way?
If it is a coming out of the closet party, that is awesome! Way to be supportive! However, doesn't sound like much of a gift giving occassion.

Re: WITH EXPLAINATION NWR: my friend from work is having a "coming out party" for her son...
I just talked to FH about this. His coworker is chinese and had this "red egg banquet" when their baby was a month or so old.
I would think of it in terms of a christening or something like that. Give cash as a gift or like a savings bond for the kid.
