Display Bridal Shower

What do you girls think about a display only bridal shower, where the guests do not wrap the gifts or only wrap in clear paper, so bride does not have to unwrap all the gifts and waste time?

Re: Display Bridal Shower

are there a lot of guests invited? If you have a high number then yes I love the idea... there are only so many hours you can sit and watch someone unwrap gifts... but if its like 20 people, then it might be ok to let them wrap in paper... is it a surprise or did the bride request it?

Re: Display Bridal Shower

my friend who last got married requested no wrapping of presents at her shower. she did sit down and "open" the gifts, but basically everything was in gift bags unwrapped and she pulled the stuff out quickly, everyone said their oooohhhs and aaaaahhhs, and that was it. i liked it actually.

Re: Display Bridal Shower

this is what i'm doing. On the invitation I wrote: at bride's request, please wrap all gifts in clear wrap to ensure bonding time with our treasured guests.

I know some people will be offended...but i feel showers are soooo boring..i just want to eat, dance, and have a good time! everyone knows what is on my registry!!!!!

Re: Display Bridal Shower

im against it.. i feel that people are exctited to purchase a gift for you and they want you to open it and get excited to see it. they spent the money and want to see the bride open them

I know that in the past i have had family members who had there BP unwrap the presents for the bride and the guest got mad.. they didnt like that.. they wanted the bride to open it and have that anticipation of what it was going to be.

Re: Display Bridal Shower

Respectfully, while I understand all the reasons given for a display shower, I like to watch gifts being opened, as long as I can actually see. Sometimes, the crowd of guests, around the Bride to be, hides the gifts from viewing, which is a bit frustrating. And, since I love to wrap gifts in a unique/custom way for each Bride, I really get a kick out of seeing how they react to the package!! But that's just me. Mary MOB

Re: Display Bridal Shower

just want to add that I think that younger people are more understanding about what you want to do than older people who believe things are tradictionally always done. do just be prepared that your older guests (aunts, grandparents, etc..) may not like this

also.. pet peeve is when the bride doesnt say who the gift is from or doesnt say it loud enough...

Re: Display Bridal Shower

I would have loved it - I had about 50 at mine and it took me about an hour to unwrap all the gifts!

I would say have them wrap it in clear wrapping though so all can just see what was bought.

Re: Display Bridal Shower

I would say to have them wrapped. A lot of people would think it rude to not open their gifts. My mom would FLIP if I even suggested it....she's having issues with the whole registry idea. SHe thinks its rude to ask for certain things as gifts. I think it just cuts down on returns. She does say that she got 4 toasters for her bridal shower.

Re: Display Bridal Shower

I love it and hope its done at my wedding.. YOu can make the gifts into the shape of a cake on the gift table.. and everyone can walk around and look at their leisure

would rather spend time with guests then open gifts

Re: Display Bridal Shower

this is iffy because alot of guests want to actually see you opening your gift and see your reaction to what they bought you. Its kind of like if you bought a gift for somebody, and you never got to see them actually look at it, and didn't get to see their reaction. I think it just wouldn't be the same, people like to go out of their way to buy you something and to see that you actually like the gift, it just makes them feel better. I know when i've gone to bridal and baby showers and i hear the person say "OMG i love this, or this is so useful or helpful" i feel better about giving them something they're excited about

Re: Display Bridal Shower

Personally I love the idea, but I probably wouldn't do it just because I know the guests want to see you unwrap their gift & hold it up for everyone to see it.

another great point hahahah very true. PLUS the whole point of the shower is to shower the bride with gifts, so that should be a big focus

Re: Display Bridal Shower

Either way it doesn't make a difference to me. I'm probably going the more traditional route. But just one thing to think about, most places give complimentary wrapping for gift registries, that doesn't include the clear celophane wrap. Why have someone incur an unnecessary cost after they just bought you a gift . . . .even if it's just a few dollars. IMO i think it's a little inconsiderate. If I were to do this I think it's better to request no wrapping at all.
