Suffolk County Law for cancellation? Help!

Hi I recently had to cancel my wedding reception planned for June 7th, 2008. I let the rep know at our catering service and venue (both Lessings) about a week ago. I was told unless the place is rebooked with a wedding, we won't get our money back ($5K deposit). I have since advertised the availability on this site and have received a few responses in regard to a Better Business Bureau law that states if cancelled 6 months or more in Suffolk County that we may receive all but $100 in refund of deposit. Can anyone elaborate on this? Has anyone known anyone to go through this before? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Happy new year everyone!
