Is it a LI/NYC Metro thing?

I'm not trying to act like a snob, but I'm curious.

DH and I attended two weddings this past summer - both cousins of mine, one from CA who was married out there and one that was married in Buffalo.

We received their thank you cards, but it's just a generic thank you card with a message thanking us for celebrating their special day and for our "generous" gift that will be used towards their new homes.

There weren't any photos attached with them - is that something that is only done in this area?

i think there are MANY things about new york weddings that make it a "new york wedding"...u dont sound snobby at all! i had a friend from out of state come to mine and she assumed our cocktail hour was the reception...it's just done differently elsewhere.. THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE NEW YORK BABY!

this might come out wrong ... but i always thought sending the pictures was a "non-jewish thing" ...

most of my jewish friends who've gotten married have sent simple thank you notes that matched their invitations and didn't have a photo included.

actually its something we're debating right now.... b/c our wedding was interfaith ... and we already have the notes that match the invites ... can't decide if we should add a wallet pic inside the note.

I bought my thank yous when I bought my invites. I had no intentions of doing picture thank yous from the get go. We decided to forgo that part of our photo package in exchange for other enlargements. We had a Jewish wedding. I went to 12 weddings other than my own in 2006. Some were interfaith, some were Catholic and some were Jewish. None of the Jewish couples sent photo thank yous. All of the others did. I do not think this is a function of being Jewish however. I think it is coincidence.

The one thing I do not like is pre-written thank you notes. I have received a few of them. I find them impersonal and borderline rude. I dont care if you invited the entire population of NY to your wedding, MAKE the time to write to your guests. Do ten a night and give yourself a month to complete them (once you have them to write) regardless of if you have a picture thank you or not. I recently got a picture thank you with a label printed on the back of it thanking us. If you cannot write thank you yourself, then I guess I cannot put your picture on my fridge next to my Austin Powers magnet!

Many of the weddings that we have attended OOT we got Thank You's without pictures...We even had family call & ask how come we send a picture with our thank you

Thanks girls. I thought it was odd is all, but then it dawned on me that it may just be a NYC thing. I guess it's up to the bride.

I never saw photo thank yous until I started going to weddings in this area. It's more this area.

We have both...The pic is on the front and we have room on the inside to write a personal note. I am also Jewish and I used the others for people who did not come to the wedding. I might even send one of both!

I should start them though! I think it is a NY thing
