Number of Photos in wedding album

Hi girls. I don't post often but I read all of your great comments and advice all the time and now I need some.

I went to meet my photographer today to pick the package. To make a long story short, I had a WAR with my mother over how many pics to put in my album. The minimum was 50 and I thought that was too low considering the albums these days have some pages with up to 4 photos on a page.

So anyway, I am thinking 70 might be a better number and my mother thinks I am out of my mind. Am I?

I don't think so at all! Put as many in there as you want not that your mom wants!

I paid for 70 and ended up with 77!!! :o) So if you are crazy, so am I!

I booked for 60 pages
Edit to say, w/60 pages, the # of actual pics can get high

I contracted for 60 pictures in my album - and thought that would be fine. Now - I'm not too sure. They always say that it's less expensive to contract for more before - compared to paying for additional pages after the wedding. So - if you can do it, go for the 70 photos.

I contracted for up to 90 photos in my album - not pages, photos. We ended up with over 75 pics in the album, with some pages having more than one photo on a page.

Be very careful with adding pages or photos after you sign the contract - most photogs charge *alot* of money to add things on after the fact....ask before you sign!!

Remember pages does not mean # of pix, b/c as you stated above you might choose to have some composite pages. We had signed a contract for a 30 page album, we ended up adding 6 additional pages. It would be wise to budget for more pages now, b/c you always end up wanting more than you contracted for, especially when you see all the beautiful proofs

You can always add more after your contact. We had 45 pics. Thought that was enough.

we contracted for 36, and wound up with 45 (pictures, not pages). That was plenty for us.

I feel so darn greedy now, I think we have close to 95 pix I think its b/c we did over 20 composites

I'm glad you all have these big albums b/c I have gone over my pics over and over and I can't get any lower than about 90 pics. I thought my photographer would look at me like I was crazy.

We chose 60 (the minimum was 50). I think that we are going to want to include alot of pictures once we get the proofs, and that it is worth including as much as you would like.

I contracted for 72 pictures.

we had 40 pics in our contract

I chose the pics for the album not being limited to this and came out with 63 (multiple pics on some pages)

Does your photographer charge per photo or per page? My charges per page, not per photo, so I can add a page with 4 photos on it for one cost.
I have 50 pages (really 25 double sided pages) in my album. I think you are better off contracting for the 50 photos and then adding what you want later- unless you get a huge discount for doing it pre-wedding.

we have 50. will probably end up with more-- i would like 80...

Our contract was for 56 photos I believe, we ended up putting in 80 I think. We paid extra for them , but I don't think the prices were unreasonable & we made our parent albums with exaclty 24 pictures each-that's what was in our package. You can get crazy with adding picsto the album, but I plan to frame alot of them to look at everyday.

Oh man, I originally was contracted for 36 PICTURES which is NOT enough and I only had 250 proofs....BUT my photog neglected to tell me 36 is VERY small for an album, so of course we increased it to 69 or something and paid an arm and a leg for it, I was soooo mad. Make sure you have enough so you don't have to pay extra, it was $15 an extra pic which was CRAZY! No one ever told me that was a small album so I had no clue and I honestly would have cut out the must have pics of family if I were to keep it to 36 or so. I can't imagine if I had 800 proofs like some of the girls on here did!

thyanks for all the responses girls. My photographer talked in terms of pictures not pages. So I think I am going to stick to my number. He said that if I end up doing less, I don't pay for the ones I don't use. So better contract for more and if you decide to have less than so be it. I have been asking all my married friends to count the pics in their albums!! So far, the average is about 60.
