Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Also, did the sales person tell you that it was cutting it close?

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Do you mind me asking how close you are cutting? We didn't have a short engagement (2 years) BUT, we just decided this thanksgiving that we were ready and we picked a place and just did it. So our wedding is in April (and i didn't book the site or start one piece of planning until Thanksgiving). I found my dress they day after thanksgiving. I had one saleswoman tell me in the most obnoxious, self-righteous tone that i was "Way Late". whereupon i said, thank you, according to whom? and walked out (and found my dress at another store for less money!!)! I don't need someone judging me and standing in my way. I honestly couldn't be happier and more excited, so if someone wants to be rude and try to get me anxious, well, i take my business elsewhere!!
When i ordered the dress they told me that i was cutting it close but they guaranteed it would be in on time for 3 fittings !! and they didn't even charge me rush fees. We shall see if it comes in on time!
long story short (sorry i must have needed to vent about this) you can TOTALLY do it!! just relax and don't let yourself, or OTHER RUDE PEOPLE, get you nervous. it is totally doable to plan a wedding in 5 months or less and the whole secret is staying sane! and if someone is not willing to help you do that, LEAVE and keep moving because you will find someone who will.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
JoRo,
Thanks so much for the information. I am sorry that you had to deal with that nasty saleperson. I am actually not getting married until next November, but everyone is telling me that I need to go NOW to get the dress and I will not be able to get one by my wedding date. I really want to lose some weight before I even go to try on.

NOVEMBER, you stilll have time. Don't worry. I'd say order it about 6-8 months in advance though, so you have a couple of months to lose some extra weight

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
I was only engaged for 6 months and had no problems, but that may be b/c I found my dress at Jessica McClintock in Roosevelt Field. They shipped the dress directly to my house, and I had a independant seamstress do the alterations. I think I found my dress within a couple of months of being engaged, the dress shipped in 2-3 weeks and I had plenty of time for alterations. I have heard that bridal stores (like David's and Kleinfelds) can take many months to get a dress in. I have a friend who'd getting married next Sept 03, ordered her dress in Oct 02, and it won't be in until July 03.

Jodi - I think you still have time, but not a ton of time. My dress is slated to arrive in August for our October wedding, and I ordered it in December. It will probably come in early, but I didn't want to count on that.
Good Luck!!

I was planning on going sometime in February. That would be about 9 months before.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Jodi- My wedding is in September and I just ordered my dress two days ago!!! Half the sept brides haven't gotten their dress yet. You are fine!!
It takes 6 months to come in... Give yourself 2 extra months- just in case the store messes up! 8 months and you are good to go! That is optimum....
Also, remember that weight loss is not neceesary before you find the dress.... You want to lose your weight though before fittings start, so the initial mmts to get the dress don't really matter.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Yes, you have tons of time. Relax! But don't worry about trying on dresses at any time. You can start looking (or looking at magazine pictures too) and then trying on. and WHEN you lose weight then your dress can be altered! to avoid the "stress" of cutting close, since you do have time, i would start looking (and trying) soon, just so there are no problems. you would rather havea dress that has to be taken in, then the stresss of not knowing whether your dress will come in on time! Good luck!

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
You really should get the dress in Feb. I would begin looking though. The process of finding that perfect dress took me to 6 salons and 2 1/2 months... Dress shopping is really exhaustive and you don't want to go to more than two stores a day or you won't be alert!!! Could you imagine if your dress is in the fifth store and you are too tired to try things on or appreiate its beauty??? So, def begin looking!!!

Jodi, calm down thts 11 months from today. You can start looking in Feb or march the new styles will be out. As fas weight, you can pick the dress and you have a couple of months till it comes in to lose weight

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
The time between my engagement and wedding date was 4 months. I found my dress the second week in june and it was delivered to the store in Aug. I did hear the crap from the pushy places...ignore them..and go somewhere else.
(the 'quickness' of the dress delivery I attribute to the designer and the store that I bought it from. Since Macys bridal is owned by demetrios, it was a quick deal...also, the salespeople changed my date to ensure it got there quicker:)

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
I bought my dress off the rack from Lillette's in Baldwin right before Thanksgiving for my July wedding. I think 9 months is plenty of time. Also, you don't need to lose weight when you select your dress, so don't feel pressured to lose weight so you can buy your dress. Since your wedding is in November, you will most likely have your fittings in September. I think you have plenty of time.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
I started looking in January for my July wedding and everyone told me the same thing and had me in a panic. After trying on a million or so dresses, I decided on one and ordered it. It came in two weeks! I went to the store to make sure they ordered the right dress in the right size. I got the dress from Charisol Bridal in Bayside.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Don't let anyone feed you that line of BS. When I had to order a second dress because of a mix-up, the second dress came in exactly one month (to the day) after I ordered it.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Carrieann - I bought a demetrios also, and they told me nine months . I did have an issue that b/c of my height I needed my size plus extra length, could that be the huge difference?? Unless this thing comes in super-early, which I suspect it might.

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
Jodi - Don't worry!! And don't listen to those pushy salespeople! I was shopping in August for my December wedding. When I would tell them that the wedding was in December - they would look at me and say 2002?? - like I was crazy. Thay all said that I had to decide 'today' - or I would have problems. Well, the dress was ordered 8/10 - and came in at the beginning of November. My dress did come in wrong - so I did have some problems - But - it still all worked out. Really, you have time - don't let the salespeople get you nervous!

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
We got engaged February 2002 and were married September 2002. I had absolutely no problems planning/booking anything. I ordered my dress form angel bridals (the best!!) and it arrived in 2 1/2 weeks. I think this is unusual, but it did happen. Don't let the salespeople give you a hard time. Angel bridals can take care of everything if you need a gret place to go. You couldn't find nicer people to buy from if you tried. They are on Main Street in East Islip. Worth the trip from anywhere! Good luck. Deb

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
November is still months away - I dont know if your into it - but what I did was shop at davids bridal - looking through they're social dresses, as well as bridemaids dresses, I found one I loved, most of the time they have most sizes in the store, but if you need to order (like i did) it only takes 3 weeks - which i didnt think was that bad,
remember most places want your business so they will do anything to help and please you, dont bother with the rude ones! and good luck finding a dress!

Re: Those of you that had a short engagment, did you have trouble getting a dress in such a short time?
I was still dress shopping in November for my May wedding (only 6 months). All the salons were rushing me. I think they just do this pressure you to buy from THEIR salon.
You will be fine. You MIGHT have to pay a rush fee if you cut it too close but if you buy one in March or April, I don't think you will have any problems.
Don't procrastinate though!
