your 2nd cousin would be you's father's cousin's kids (for example), so 2nd cousin once removed would be your father's cousin (in this example)
I'm teaching a course about kinship this semester, so i had to learn about these things...

i have two sets of married cousins in my family
one set got married bc the wife wanted to come to America, but it was a real marriage they have perfectly healthy kids - but they didnt really know each other so it was like marrying a stranger
the other set grew up together!!! then got married and they had kids too!!

glad you posted this - my grandparents were first cousins. apparently it was the thing to do in italy, so it's not a big deal to me. NOT that i could ever imagine marrying my cousin

see now i have a family.... but im adopted so this could have happened.... and it wouldnt have mattered.. if i 1 dint kno they were from my biological family.. or 2 long lost cousins frommy adopted family that i never knew....
the never knew part im fine with.. its the i knew you growing up as family that i dont get... just me.

yeah it was always normal to me too ( well, kind of - LOL )
but ew marrying my cousin?!?! every time this comes up my cousins and i have to stand as far apart as possible

sorry to say that and leave you hanging. I'm a child abuse investigator in Queens which as some may know is culturally verrrry diverse. In some cultures there is no stigma against marrying, dating, having children w/ cousins. I have two cases (my coworkers have a few too) that involve children who are the product of "cousin love" ..Not funny really but in my line of work you've gotta laugh
