NWR: Absolutely miserable and hating American Airlines... WITH UPDATE!
one of my BMs is (was?) coming to visit me for the weekend, with an 8:30am flight getting in at 10:20am. Well... they sat on the runway for an hour, then came back, and now their flight was cancelled. the next direct flight was 1:15, but that has now filled. same with the 2:25 flight.
She's still at the airport.... they tentatively switched her on a connecting flight to DC with a 35 min stopover (ahhh) that should get her in at 4:30. They told me that when I called reservations, they still havent told the poor people at the airport a damnn thing. 
I don't want her to take that flight, get delayed and then get stranded in DC. She was only going to be here 3 days and this suckss so much that it looks like she's going to miss one of them, or not come at all. 
Plus, it suckss that my friend got to the airport at 7am and is just sitting there.....
I want to cry...

where is she coming from? i know that a lot of flights from all over have been delayed because of the fires in CA and planes not being able to elave or fly into the san diego area - which leaves a lot of other airports stranded without planes or crews. i am so sorry your friend hasn't gotten a flight yet - IMO she should get the flight to DC and if she cannot make a connection she can always take a train or the acela to NYC and then hop on the LIRR.

My sister had to wait several hours last week to finally fly here. Sadly, if this is caused by weather or natural causes (like the fires), there really isn’t anything they can do.

OMG - we had the same MAJOR problems with Americcan.We almost missed a 7 day vacation in Saint Maarten because of them!
Also, FH"s grandma was going to Antigua and they cancelled her direct flight and made her get there by the following route:
NY to Puerto Rico to Aruba to Antigua. I don't know if you know the geography of the Caribbean but that is the most asss backwards way to get there EVER. It ended up taking her more than 12 hours.

Well FH was supposed to have a direct flight from STL --> LGA getting in at 7:15pm, and ended up having to take a late late flight to DALLAS, and then fly to NEWARK and get in at 2am. We then had to pick him up at Newark and drive back to LI....

It doesnt have to do with the weather. Better safe than sorry, I know, but they did a shittty job checking out the plane and found a problem with a light after boarding everyone and sitting on the runway for over an hour. The next direct flight after 8:30am was 1:15pm but everything has long since booked up. They havent even told them anything at the airport and my friend is still waiting in line for the ticketing counter.
The only info we have is from when i called AA reservations and pretended to be her..

I love Delta....they never steered my wrong...I booked a flight for one of my BM to make it to my e-party and Delta screwed her bad...she sat in the airport in ATL for like 4 hours b/c of a storm here...then when I went to pick her up a cabby hit my car!!!

OK, so she's going to take a 1:30 (!!!) flight to DC, and now the DC flight is delayed 25 minutes so it will be a 55 minute stopover and she will get in at 4:50. Rush hour!
Luckily FH works 5 minutes from the airport and gets out at 5pm, so I'm hoping he can pick her up for me.....
Worst case, her brother lives in DC so if she gets stranded she'll have somewhere to go, but I think it will all work out.
I'm going to have to run some of the errands we were going to do (ie: buy last minute parts of her halloween costume which didn't come in the mai in time, etc). Then I'm going to try to make the best of this situation by getting as much schoolwork done as possible.
Again this situation makes me glad we are having a Sunday wedding because people can fly friday night and we have a buffer zone...

Update: she made it to DC.... but then the DC flight was delayed and they just took off 5 min ago! it's supposed to be a 2 hour flight from there, but hopefully she can make up some time in the air!
Estimated arrival time of 5:23 (with the time difference) (quite a difference from 10:20am)
Lucky for my friend tonight's party is open bar
