anyone having an after party after their day wedding?

we're having an afternoon wedding that ends at 5 on a saturday. some people asked if we are having an after party. it sounds like fun, but i've never heard of these before? is it immediately after the reception? do we need to invite all guests? where is one usually held, in a lounge? i am clueless!!

Not a formal after party, but just getting together at the hotel that we and our OOT guests are staying at.
There is a large bar in the Atrium, and we buy the first round, after that everyone is on their own. After paying for the wedding reception, paying for an additional party is crazy.
Anyone from the reception is welcome to join us.
For our guests staying at the hotel, we are paying for the brunch the following morning.

I've never heard of an after party with the bride & groom there but why not.

We didn't have a formal party, but we all partied in my parents large hotel suite and a few family members hotel rooms, ordered pizza, put some music on and we all relaxed and continued the party!!!!!

Ours will end to late so we're having a BBQ the next day (July 4th) for some family and the OOT. As far as the rest of the weekend, we arent sure yet, but im sure we'll be busy with everyone in town.

thats funny you posted this, cause i just did yesterday in the 07 boards..
we want to try and have an after party, but nothing official, if we feel up to it then we will go.. its usually at the bar at the hotel the OOT guests are stayin at. i just want to stay in my dress as long as possible!!! im gonna cry when i have to take it off

My FH group is definately a party crowd and usually goes to a bar afterward to keep the party rolling. But nothing formally planned. Since our reception ends at midnight - we are probably gonna block rooms at a hotel that has a bar so that we can keep the party rollin if we want - and then go crash when it gets late.

I went to a wedding in NH a few weeks ago and there was an unofficial after-party at the hotel with the OOT guests! We didnt end up going to bed till around 6 or 7 the next morning! We brought beer down to the lobby and played beer pong and flip cup and hit the pool (dont think it was officially open) It was awesome! The bride and groom were MIA if you know what I mean. But everyone else partied it up all night! Its cool if the hotel isnt too strict on things like that!

i think a lot of girls do them at hotels (like the hotel they're staying in for their wedding night), local bar/lounge, or if you have someone who can volunteer their house/apartment and having it decorated before everyone gets there. you don't have to invite everyone, just whoever still wants to keep partying after the wedding's done.

We did. We rented out out a room at a hotel and catered with heroes, salads, chips/dips, etc. and beer/wine/soda. About 100 of my 200 guests came back to it - it was awesome and I got to really extend wearing my dress!!!

We also had a lot of OOT guests, so we purposely got married during the day so that we could do something like this and have more time with those who traveled long distances.

Same here... We're getting married at the East Wind and most of our guests are staying over. So we plan on going to the bar inside the hotel after the wedding is over and having a brunch the following morning-for all guests who spent the night. And after the brunch, we plan on going to his family Memorial Day BBQ (they have it every year).

Plus... If you have some sort of after party- you get to wear your gown longer!!!!

I'm planning to go back to the hotel and party at the hotel bar. Nothing formal just a little more party. I've been to quite a few wedings with after parties and the're fun!

having one at the hotel or across the street at a bar/club (depends). We figured it would be the people who took off the next day and our OOT guests so we are living it up as much as possible.

we are only paying for the bar at teh hotel to say open later if we do the party at the hotel ($100) but other then that its all up on the guests.

FH and i are getting married on a sunday and the reception ends at 5 as well, and since the next day is a holiday, we invited everyone back to the garden city hotel to hang out in their lounge (rein) after the wedding. whoever shows, shows, but we aren't paying for anything

Our is a night wedding but my good friend had an after party after her wedding and she had it at the bar of her hotel they were staying at...not everyone came but she had a good crowd there.

we're getting married in the evening so i don't think so. when we were thinking of an afternoon wedding i was going to. I say go for it! doesn't have to be fancy. some places will box the leftover cake for you too so you should find out about that. i thought maybe we'd have it in a suite at the hotel or at the hotel bar.

We had an after party at our hotel. All of our OOT guests were staying there too. We wound up hanging out by the pool with beers and food.

It was great.

The limo is driving us (& whoever wants to join us) to the san gennarro festival in manhattan, it should be fun
