Brief, yet detailed review of My Wedding Day. May 19, 2007**review is done!**
Thank you to Long Island Weddings and the wonderful ladies who gave me ideas, feedback, and words of encouragement throughout the planning process.
This review includes feedback for the following vendors:
Church: St. Pancras, Glendale, Queens RH: Sans Souci of Seacliff Bride's Attire: Wedding Salon of Manhasset Bridesmaids Attire: Wedding Salon of Manhasset DJ: FM Entertainment Florist: Florist Hills Limos: Royalty Photographer: Silverfox Studios Makeup: Karen Arbitol Hair: Dianne from Defusion
**All of the pictures included in this review have been taken by John and Franco from Silverfox!** Enjoy!
Church: St. Pancras, Glendale, Queens (C) This is a truly beautiful, old church, but I was really disappointed with the pastor of my family's parish. He gave us wrong information about pre-cana, didn't show up for our rehearsal, and called my husband the wrong name 3x during our ceremony!
Sans Souci: (A+++++) I have nothing but good things to say about this catering hall and the staff who work there. Everything was exactly as I imagined it. The food was absolutely out-of-this world amazing. (We laughed for months when the lady who we spoke to on our first visit said, "our food is better than restaurant quality"...it really and truly is). Having the bar on the dance floor was such a wonderful thing. It was PACKED all night which was nice because not all of our guests danced, but they were definitely all drinking, so it felt like they were in on what was happening on the dance floor. I gave very detailed instructions to Jeannie (the bridal co-ordinator we worked with) and they were carried out as if I was setting the room up myself. Sans Souci really and truly is an outstanding, one-wedding at a time, establishment. If you are getting married there, you have nothing to fear. BTW, definitely add on the Chocolate Manhattan Truffle for dessert!
Wedding Salon of Manhasset: (A+) I found my wedding dress the first day I went shopping for dresses; although, I didn't buy it at the time because I wanted to keep looking. I had been clipping and cutting dresses that were “less than an A-line” because I didn’t really like that full-princess look. When I tried on the dress I eventually wound up buying, I knew immediately I had found “the one” I started crying and so did my mother. The designer was Ulla Maija, style: Brielle. Mary was the attendant who assisted us, and she was extremely helpful. In fact, my entire experience at the Wedding Salon was wonderful. My dress fit me beautifully the day of my wedding, and I was very happy with their service. My bridesmaids received 20% off their dresses because I bought my dress at Wedding Salon. I pretty much knew that I loved this Alvina Valenta bridesmaid’s dress, and I was so happy that my bridesmaids fell in love with it to. Wedding Salon doesn’t do bridesmaids’ alterations, which was fine because we have a really great seamstress in Forest Hills that we’ve used for years.
FM Entertainment: (B) This was our most inexpensive vendor. My DH and I just decided we didn’t want to make this a big budget expense. On the day of the wedding, our DJ/MC, Mike, did a pretty good job of keeping everyone on the dance floor. In fact, when my “must play list” of mostly hip-hop wasn’t working, he totally switched it up to incorporate music that would bridge the generations present at our wedding. The reason I only gave FM a B: one really huge mistake in my eyes, he announced my mother as “Barbara”; her name is “Patricia”. Approximately 3 minutes before introductions, Mike had approached both sets of parents, the bridal party and my husband and I to go over names.
Florist Hills: (A+) Although their not a LIW vendor, my parents have used them many times for various occasions. Their located in Rego Park, Queens, and do a wonderful job. I went here after first visiting Sans Souci’s house Florist and leaving very upset. I had a vision of what I wanted to create, and I knew that Blue Hydrangeas were definitely a part of that vision. I had been told by countless Florists that this flower wasn’t good in a BO-K b/c they dry out quickly. Florist Hills was the only place that offered me a viable alternative for what to use in my BO-K and came up with very creative ideas for my centerpieces and mantle-pieces and church pieces. The flowers arrived on time, and in wonderful condition. The owner, Rosie, was helpful every time I met with her and was familiar with our RH. I highly recommend them.
Silverfox Studios: (A++++++)
(This was the first vendor that I found on LIW!) I felt so comfortable with these guys from the very first time we walked into their studio. There was something so natural about their style of photography. I don’t really care for the “ too-posed” look. I wanted them to capture moments as opposed to staging them. The other thing I really like was that there were no set packages, and once we signed our contract, we were locked into that year’s rates. (For us, 2006). Choosing from an a la carte menu gave us the opportunity to spend the money on a pricier vendor without having to dole out the money for everything we wanted up front. We hired two photographers for out wedding day, a main photographer and a photojournalist. About 2 weeks before the wedding, the owner of Silverfox, John, called me and told me that our main photographer was invited to an out-of-town showcase and asked if he could shoot our wedding. I was delighted to have the owner and GM, Franco, take our pictures the day of our wedding. We have incredible shots that I will treasure for a lifetime. Both men are absolutely wonderful, professional, and talented. I am very happy with this vendor.
Karen Arbitol (make-up) (A): I signed with Karen the day of my make-up trials. I handed her a picture of what I liked, she did an incredible job, so I felt like I didn’t really have to look any further. On the day of my wedding, she was scheduled to arrive at my house at 9:30. She wound up arriving closer to 10 because she was lost 3 times. (Mind you the location of my house hadn’t changed since the trial, neither had the map quest directions). I was very happy with my make-up the day of my wedding, as was my mother, sister, and one of my bridesmaids.
Dianne, from Defusion Hair Salon, Franklin Square: (A+++++) Dianne is a talented hair stylist who also happens to be my sister’s best friend. There was no question that I wanted her to do my hair on the day of my wedding. I went to do a hair trial 2 months before the wedding and was very happy with the up-do that she created. The day of the wedding, Dianne came to my parent’s house and did my mom’s hair, my sister’s hair, and my hair. She did an amazing job that really went with the look I was trying to achieve.

Re: Brief, yet detailed review of My Wedding Day. May 19, 2007**review is done!**
OMG, I'm dying to see pictures over here!
I think the best way to do it is upload them to your album.
Have two internet windows open at once. One opened to your LIW album (with all your pics in it), and the other opened to your review in edit mode.
In your album window, go to the picture you want to post and right click on it, go to properties, and copy the URL link.
Go to the other screen (where your review is opened), select 'Insert Web Image' underneath the emoticons and paste the URL link.
You can do as many images as you like!
I am also using John and Franco and I'd love to see John's work!!!
