Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

two friends got married at their house and it was a simple backyard bbq. People got dressed as a normal bbq and to be honest it was a ton of fun. Major issue since it is a backyard bbq they got less money but they spent less money.

They also got to purchase a VERY nice house because they didn't go all out for a wedding because they felt a house was more important.

another friend is getting married in the hamptons on their family summer house. she has money.. or i should say her family does so its for free and just like a hamptons white tent party. So i really think her wedding is prob. going to be more extravagent then most of ours IoI

My firend got married in her now DH's backyard.....they brought in food from a local italian place. THe ceremony was nice and simple she wore a dress from J Crew. ( I think) The only thing i didn't like was becuase there were alot of people for a one bathroom house there were porter potties......i had to hold it in!

FH and I wanted to have our wedding in our backyard - the only reason we didn't was because I didn't want to use tents and if it did rain we'd have lots of trouble fitting 100+ people inside the house LOL

I think a at home wedding can be awesome - it can be relaxed and fun or totally formal, you could rent a dance floor and the whole 9 yards.

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

I went to one around Christmas time in Baldwin, and it was beautiful....she only had about 75 people.

She held her ceremony in her living room in front of the fireplace and put mistletoe and garland and white lights up all over, it was soooooo pretty.

And then she had a heated tent put up in her backyard where you could dance, eat and mingle. She turned her basement into a playroom for the kids to go and kick back.
Her home was by no means extravagant or extra large or anything, but it was good b/c it gave it this warm, friendly, Christmas-y feel to it

Yes...our friend got married last year at the grooms parents back yard in Sta Barbara. It was a small wedding about 50 people but it was gorgeous. The view (facing the ocean), the food and catering service was fantastic. I didn't heard a single complaint.

I went to a wedding in Indiana in the backyard on a lake. They did a BBQ and it was one of the best weddings I went to.

I went to one in Atlanta and it was lovely. It was about 75 people I think....backyard, under the stars, very romantic. Bathroom line got a little long, but other than that I just remember how nice and intimate it was.

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

There was a LIW bride who did her wedding in a tent of a backyard and it looked amazing. Do a search, I think she's in the brides review. She used Angelica Glass as her photographer. Photos were amazing. Her review was great because it was so detailed.

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

One of my best friends got married in her backyard, and it was amazing. It really was the funnest wedding I had ever been to. There was a huge tent in the backyard and they had it catered in. It was as beautiful as any other wedding I had been to at a catering hall, and more fun.

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

I was in the BP for a friend who got married at home. Granted, she lives inthe middle of Maine and her home is actually her parent's business... they run a Bed and Breakfast---so clearly there home was very large....several rooms and cabins, etc. It was a BLAST! the bridal party stayed for 3 nights in their cabins and a tent was set up in the backyard. OOT people stayed in other vacant cottages and cabins on the proprty. granted it was very low key foodwise--- kegs and plastic cups... no liquor or fine wine and Mom did all the cooking, but it was one of the most fun weddings ever!

the only negative was when it started to rain it got very crowded inside, even though their living room/den was HUGE!

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

My sister and my best friend both had a wedding at a house. I have some suggestions (assuming it will be outside):

Rent NICE outside toilets (that have a light.) at least 2.
Get a tent with removable sides just in case of rain
Dance floor (it always makes it fun!)
string white Christmas lights around the entire perimeter of the property
Make sure to tell the neighbors way in advance you are having a party that could be loud!
Make sure there is enough room for parking

that is all I can think of for now!

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

One I attended was really a big BBQ. The budget was well under 2K.

Another I attended was a tent wedding, fully catered with 2 tents, white glove service, fancy linens, huge band, full cocktail hour. The backyard was completely re-done for the event. It was a lot more costly than most catering hall weddings. It was gorgeous but happened to be during a heat wave.

Both were fun!!!!!!!!!!! My only comment would be that weather becomes a bigger concern.

Re: Have you ever attended a wedding in someone's home?

The last 2 weddings I've been to have been at the brides family's summer home. One was right off a lake in Connecticut and the other in Deer Isle Maine. They were both beautiful under white tents. There were also porta-potties which I didn't like but otherwise they were great. My only complaint about the one in Maine which was also right off the water and gorgeous- was that it got extremely cold. They had warm air blowing into the tent and closed most of the sides but it was still freezing. Even in the cold though it was still the most fun wedding I've been to!
