Re: Official "How to save money on your wedding" thread!

Thanks so much! Seems there are more budget brides out there than you'd think.. myself included. You have such great advice!! One thing I'd add or reiterate- it seems once "wedding" is added to anything, it gets more expensive. Many accessories, dresses, etc can be much cheaper if you come across them in a regular store.. Goodluck everyone else!!

OH! So true!!!!

I thought about calling some vendors pretending I was a Sweet 16, but FH talked me out of it saying that it would just get me frustrated in the end...

I agree. I'm also against bathroom baskets. And public facility should provide TP and paper towels. And any women would bring her own feminine products if she needed them!

Re: Official "How to save money on your wedding" thread!

I agree with most of it! I'm trying my best to avoid the "keeping up with the others" stuff. No crypacks, no "I DO" letter. I am going to do petal cones, but I found a site online that has them for $.19. Yes, that's nineteen cents. And the only reason I want them is I really want those photos of us walking back down the aisle with petals falling all around us. But that shot is probably going to cost us $10-$15 in petals and cones. Same thing with my veil--I ordered an inexpensive one from Occansey Designs chiefly because I wanted the "veil over the face' photos. That's it, other than the idea that I really felt like a bride when I tried on veils.

My best idea: after the wedding, sell everything you don't want anymore and won't display as a keepsake on eBay. I haven't gotten there yet, but I plan on selling the votive holders, as I don't need 72 yellow votive holders, the "Here Comes the Bride" banner, as I'm not going to need that again, and the CP vases if there's any left, I suspect they're going home with the guests. Also my extra cake topper, the vintage one, is going on eBay. If you have a big collection of old Martha Stewart Weddings magazines, they go for $3-$4 apiece on eBay. (However, I promised mine to a friend.) My bridal handbag probably will get sold, as I don't need an ivory beaded bag. One thing though--don't start the auctions at a high price or put a high reserve on them. Get some money back, let another bride have a bargain.

I wish I knew that.. I just threw out all of my bridal mags!! Such smart ideas.

I wanted to resell my dress but someone stepped on it while dancing and tore the train a bit. Oh well!

Re: Official "How to save money on your wedding" thread!

This is great advice.. I'm staying true to my budget and also spending less than $20,000 on the wedding.. I think the best thing is that things that folks charge an arm and leg for you can get very cheap on Ebay.

Re: Official "How to save money on your wedding" thread!

Thanks for the post. Like many of us I have a budget and after hearing of all these new additions I was starting to worry if I include them I would go way over.
Thank you for putting things back into perspective.

I see nothing wrong with doing away with favors. Yes, it's a nice gesture I guess, but be honest - how many favors have you gotten that you really appreciated? And if you were a guest at a wedding with no favors, would you really miss them??

I do like your CD idea! That is something your guests will enjoy listening to long after your wedding! And so reasonable too - I guess I could justify that!
