Wedding Weight Loss

How many pounds did you lose or plan to lose before the wedding?

I wanted to get down to my college weight (110 lbs). I'm at 115 now. My first fitting is in 10 days.

I'm eating salad only from now until the wedding. I hate dieting!!!!!

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

i've lost 25 pounds already, need to lose another 45 to get back down to what i was when i first started dating FH.

eat 1200 calories a day, eat small meals, up your water, and at least walk 30 minutes a day every day. try to do more cardio or moving around. it works. none of those fad diets work. this is one that my nutritionist told me

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

I'm up to working out 2 hours a day, 5-6 days per week.

I have less than 4.5 months to go and at least 20 more pounds to lose!

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

Hmm how tall are you and were you healthy back then? I am 5'6 and have struggled with my weight most of my adult life-have body dysmorphia so I struggled with eating disorders for years. Even after I got them under control, I was still not at a "healthy' weight fro myself. Doctor was always on my case. I wasn't 100 pounds anymore, but he felt 117 was on the "skinny side" for a woman of my build and height. (Small upper body but very wide hips and backside)

I said pft because I honestly felt I was "healthy" since i was not throwing up or dieting conciously. HOWEVER, last year my FH whos in good shape, started me at the gym because though i weighed 177lbs and looke dgreat, I could NOT WALK UP ONE FLIGHT OF STIARS IN HIS PARENTS HOUSE! Walking into the absement and back made me have to sit down on the steps to catch my breath. It was ridiculous.

So we started going to the gym together and he put me on a heavy weight training regimine. I was still eating about the same as I usually did-pizza and chocolate when i was in the mood and no crazy carb cutting- but I did start taking in more protein and sleeping more (which sounds silly but ist soo important to good health.)

Now after a year of on and off (due to school-try to go at least 3 times a week for an hour a day) of gym workouts, my weight slides between 127 and 130lbs.

Doesnt sound like much gain but it flipped me out for awhile till i sat back and thought about it. I look about the same to myself but I feel better. I can walk several flight of stairs no problem. I also saw a show of two female fighters. They were about my height-one was 5'6 1/2 and one was 5'8. Both weighed between 129-140lbs and they were really lean.

I didn't mean to go on a ran but wanted to basically say don't look at the scale because it is the enemy. As long as you feel good, go with that. Five pounds is really not a huge difference if it means you feel physically better.

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

I'm petite - 5'4".

I've fluctuated between 110 and 125 throughout my 20's.

I think I weighed about 120 when I got engaged. Now I'm at 115. Trying to get to 110 by wedding time.

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

Remember, muscle mass weighs more than fat mass -- so if you start exercise, the numbers may not drop as quickly as you'd like, though you'll notice a change in how you look / feel.

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

You're the same height and weight as me. I wouldn't worry btw 110-115; you've got enough to stress about please don't be concerned with your weight. Your fittings will be fine and you're going to look beautiful in your dress!!!!!!!

Besides, eating nothing but salads for the next 7 weeks isn't healthy. You need a balanced diet, esp now, you don't want to be sick at your wedding.

i agree i wouldnt go with just salad...if you do end up breaking down and eating even a little more than youve been used to the past few days you will bloat more than usual bc your body got used to smaller portions...At least add chicken to your salad, and dont forget about breakfast and dinner

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

Exactly kara. I weigth 127 now but I don’t look much fatter than I was before. I am more toned all over -grins FH doesn’t like to play fight with me anymore heh!

BrideX-try weight training classes. They really help build muscle and drop fat if not weight. Combined with cardio at least 30 minutes, 3 times a week, you will start re-shaping your body.

Don't do crazy diets. they don't work and you will only hurt your health with the yo-yoing. try to get a nutrition book-Idiots guide ironically is a great one and learn what to eat and the amounts and just watch protions which is SUPER important. Those NY style bagels are like 3 times the suggestion portion size!

Also, be careful with running. I recently found out about shin splints; micro-fractures in the shin bones. PAINFUL. I started noticing after heavy runs, my shins would ache so much as if someone had kicked me in them. Would last for DAYS! So I went to the doc and he said its very common among runners, especially women. More common for the average Joe or Jane than someone who knows how to train properly.

He said hard impact exercise is killer on the knees but also the shins which are pretty fragile and easy to fracture (I got a hairline fracture in my right shin when I was 17 by just falling up stairs and hitting the edge of the step) Said it happens a lot to people who run on asphalt. So be careful. My trainers have said the same thing. they suggested eliptical machine workouts and cycling classes.

OR!!! My NEWWWW FAVORITE! Urban Rebounding at BALLYS. OMG!!! SOO Much fun!

Basically its a trampoline class. You do aerobic workouts on a mini-trampoline. Trains your balance and endurance and when you get to jump up high in the air, you feel like you are five again. I HATE going to the gym on Mondays, but this class totally gets me motivated to go. I recommend it highly if your gym offers it.

I love rebounding!

Unfortunately I don't think it's offered at my gym - NYSC.

I've been doing light cardio and attending some weight training classes.

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

I'm not really on a diet, but more like maintaining. I didn't change my diet drastically, but certainly paid more attention to what I ate and how much of it I ate. When you deprive yourself, you end up binging which is counter-productive. I also work out about 4 times a week. I do mostly cardio and throw in strength training about 3 times a week.

The scale is my enemy, so I don't step on it. I find that if you gauge based on how your clothes fit and how you are feeling, you are more successful.

Weight loss is so tough if you're unmotivated! (Which I tend to be...)
My weight loss journey happened to coincide with when Ron proposed, I was 138, and i'm only 5'1''! I don't look it, but it's no excuse, according to the charts i'm overweight. I've lost about 4 pounds, i think my goal will be a toned, 125 pounds. I have more than a year, I think I can!

I really wonder soemtimes who the charts are made for. I mean different ethnic groups do tend to ahve different body types. not racist, just a fact. Many asian women are smaller boned. Many hispanic women are pear shaped, etc. example, a friend of mine is european. I carry my weight in my lower half so even though she and I are the exact same height and weight, she looks ten times thinner. So should the charts take into accoutn body shape and build as well? I think so.

i dont follow that, for my height im supposed to be even smaller than what i want to be...im just going by the weight i was happiest and felt best when i was exercising and eating healthy all the time...The time i felt the greatest was at 118

Re: Wedding Weight Loss

I can usually lose weight pretty quickly. However I have been not motivated at all until very recently. Last week I started to eat healthier and went to the gym 3 days. I also went yesterday and plan on going for as many days as I can this week and the weeks to follow. I guess I know that I will get the call that my dress is in, soon. I want to make sure that they need to take it in.
I try not to weigh myself, I'd rather feel better in my clothes or have them be too loose. I did however weigh myself last week and I was 130 so I guess I'd like to drop 5-10 pound before my fittings begin. It's true that the maintenance is harder than losing it! Good luck to everyone with their weight loss
