Woodbury Country Club Mini Review (Long!!) with pics from the wedding!

Hey girls -

I was a BM in my friend's wedding this past Saturday. She had her ceremony and reception at Woodbury Country Club. Here is my mini review and pics:

Lori's Wedding Pics (non-pro)

Woodbury Country Club (B-) I don't want anyone to take this personally, but I was not very impressed with this place. When we first got there around 2:30pm we were greeted by the bridal attendant and someone else. We were getting dressed there, so they told us to go up to the bridal suite and they would take all of our dresses and belongings up to the suite for us. I thought that was great. We got into the bridal suite and the Bridal Attendant said that she would get us some trays of fruit, crackers and cheese. There were VERY small bottles of soda on the bar in the suite, they never offered to replenish them when they were empty. She brought us one small tray of crackers and another small tray with both fruit and cheese on it. This was for 6 VERY hungry people - it was gone in no time and no one ever offered us anything else. The bridal attendant disappeared multiple times and was hard to find - and we were the ONLY people there. Finally we were all ready and went to take pictures at around 3:30pm. During the pictures, the bridal attendant came out with one tray of hot hors d'oeuvres for both families and the bridal party (probably about 20+ people) and never offered anyone a drink. That took up most of our time until the ceremony. The guests started to arrive and were told to wait in the lobby for probably about a half hour with nothing to do. I didn't really like that, but the guests didn't seem to mind that much. The ceremony started at 6pm. The people there really did a great job getting everyone started and lined up and ready. The ceremony went off without a hitch. After the ceremony, everyone was ushered into the cocktail hour. The cocktail hour wasn't bad, the food was pretty good, but sparse. There was a small carving station, a wok station, seafood station, pasta station and cold platters which included Ritz crackers and Lenders bagels. (I personally found the Ritz and Lenders to be kind of tacky, but that was just my own opinion)There were probably about two chafing dishes per station. I had asked for butter at one point to put on the bread they had out and the people told me to dip the bread in the oil and never offered to get me butter. Which I found kind of odd. The cocktail hour was extended and I just felt that if it is an extended cocktail hour that maybe there should be some extra food? Most of the guests were sitting around and chatting, but many looked bored. At 8:00 everyone was told to move to the reception room. Apparently, at this time the Bridal Attendant left (without notice) to go home. The bridal suite was also locked and we were unable to access it the rest of the night, which I thought was kind of silly. The reception was very nice and the food was good, not great, but not bad either. I had the chicken and FH had the prime rib. The prime rib portion was very big, while the chicken portion was kind of on the smallish side. The food was always served in a very timely manner. There were only two bartender for 160 guests. There was almost always a line for drinks that took a very long time. I thought that was kind of silly as well. The rest of the reception was pretty seamless, no real complaints. At the end of the night, she had a Veinnese Hour with the works. The Viennese hour wasn't bad, and the dessert was delicious. One thing that bothered me was that there were no serving utensils for most of the cakes that were out, that led to the line being held up, and they weren't in a hurry to help out either.

Thank you for taking the time to read the review. I know that this is just one persons opinion and not everyone will agree. This was just my personal experience with this catering hall. I probably wouldn't have noticed all these details if I wasn't planning my own wedding, but being that I am I noticed a whole lot and paid very close attention. Also, being a BM in the wedding I was exposed to a different atmosphere than a guest was, so please take that into consideration. I really did have a great time at the wedding and it was a great wedding, but these are just some things that would have bothered me if it was my own wedding. I hope this helps someone!

Re: Woodbury Country Club Mini Review (Long!!) with pics from the wedding!

This is good to know so I can make sure things like that don't happen at mine...I definitely don't care for Lenders bagels at my CH! I do remember the BM telling me that the Bridal Attendant only stays until cocktail hour is through. I questioned it, but realized that I won't need her anyway... the Maitre'D will be there and my girls will help me with anything personal, anyway. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review. We did see a cocktail hour before booking and never saw ritz crackers so that is odd. AS for the sparse food, it's up to the bride and groom to add more. They give you a certain amount and after that you pay for more.
I def. remember the food thing cause I want to make sure and have tons of food.lol

Correction: I meant as far as the carving stations and such. Depending on how many people you have they give you a set number of stations after that you pay extra to have more
