BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
FH and I started to register at Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday....We basically need everything. This is my first time buying any kitchen appliance and I don't know if we just have expensive taste or if this is how much these things cost. Our coffee maker is like $99.00 and our toaster is $60.00.....and is tea kettle $50.00??? I'm just curious how much everyone else's items were from BBB on their registry????

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
Put down everything you need. People chipped in for us and we got 99% of all our things. There was stuff that we picked out from $20 to $300. We also registered at fortunoff as well.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
we registered at fortunoff too, just for our china....I guess if we don't end up getting everything it's okay because we will get 10% off of the items if we have to buy it ourselves.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
Thats how I felt when we were doing it because if we were buying it for ourselves we would buy the "good"/more expensive brand so that we don't have to buy it again in a year when it breaks.....when my mom saw the registry she was just concerend that people would look at it and think we were nuts and not buy anything.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I felt the same way when I started, but DON'T SETTLE! Put down what you need in good quality. If it's too expensive for someone to buy, they won't get that for you.
My mom is like the manners queen and even she told me not to settle and not to register for "crap."
The only thing I changed on my registry was my sterling silver. It went up $130 a place setting to a total of $440 a place setting. I registered for something I also liked that's half the price. I probably won't get it all, but I should get some of it now.
Get what you like and put things in a variety of prices on there. I have things on my registry that go from $4 - $400.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I felt the same way but there are some things that you cannot avoid registering for that are going to be expensive. For instance all of those kitchen appliances/electrics. That IS what they cost. But I got my $300 Kitchen Aid Mixer and it's the best! I also got my Dyson, but I did not register for sterling silver flatware. To me that was not as important, neither was my fine china which my mother got for me at the Mikasa outlet during a sale. I got a 12 place setting set, with the completer set for $500!!!!!! That was so awesome because I wasn't asking for $100 place settings so I got ALL the other things I needed. Just prioritize but like AP HAVE FUN. This is once in your life.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
Just register for everything you need and want. If you get more of the things that are luxuries, you can always take them back and get the neccessities like the pots and the coffee maker.
I don't know if the coffee maker ur talking about is the one w/ cappiccino/expresso. If it is, thatn $99 is not bad. I think mine was $199.00 for both 2 in 1. Tea Kettle - $50 isnt too bad. Its just a better brand. The one I originally registered for in Fortunoff's was $30.
Are you getting a toaster or a toaster oven? I would get a toaster oven rather than a regular toaster, b/c with the toaster oven you have so many more possibilities. They start at abour $80, but you can find a really good one under $100.
Other items - like a blender, the 1 I registered for at Fortunoffs [I think it was Cusinart], it CAME with a food processor for $89 or $99 and I never even use the food processor anyway.
The one thing I can tell you that I think is a waste is that big kitchen aid mixer that costs like $300 at the least, or sometimes u'll see it for $250. I think its a waste of money. I never registered for it, and my mom cooks up a storm and she doesn't need it. You can always get a hand mixer for $25 and mixing bowls for $20!
Definitely register for nice bedding. The bedding in BBB is definitly more inexpensive than Fortunoff's. I felt horrible b/c with all my bedding and the pillows [throw pills] in Fortunoffs, it costed over $1000 and my mom even paid for my shower. Plus if you have dogs, they'll destory it!
I didn't go crazy with expensive stuff. Don't get me wrong, their very good brands [cusinart, farberwear, ect] but I didn't need Calaphon's $500 pot set! I would register for china if you want, but not something super expensive, bc my settings were $109.95 a plate and my glasses were $25.00 each and I just never use them. Maybe I will in the future, but right now theyre sitting in a box, Instead,if you don't want china, get a nice fany every day set of plates. Believe it or not, BBB has this 16 piece set of nice china for like $199 which isn't bad at all.................
Sorry I rambled! HTH!

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I also had 2 bridal showers tho..so I got alittle more than expected. at my 2nd bridal shower, at work, with about 30-40 people, they all chipped in and got me some more stuff off my registry and got me a really great BBQ with all the tools that go with it!!!!!!
But like I said, I'd still register for China, if u get it, and u didnt get something that u need like a toaster oven or a microwave, you can always take back a place setting to get the microwave!

BBB is definitely not expensive. Plus they always have the 20% off coupon. We registered for everything including at 150.00 toaster which we already received. People will buy what you put on the registry.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
dont worry how much these things cost. Remember, there will be sales often. Many people have been gradually getting the expensive stuff off our registry as they go on sale. Also, people will pitch in together to get you something expensive off of your registry.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
yep, that's what everything really costs when it's decent quality. Actually, I think you're being rather modest in your choices. Each of those could cost twice as much depending upon the manufacturer.
I agree with the others, don't compromise. You have gifts at every price point, so your guests have a large selection... enjoy your new kitchen!!!

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
for what it's worth, I rarely buy a shower gift solo - I usually chip in with my mom & sil, adn we buy a "big" gift...so do lots of other friends/family....
moral of the story - register for whatever you like - some of us are LOOKING FOR a $200 gift on the registry!

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
BBB isn't expensive. Just make sure you have some cheaper things on there, especially if you're having a shower. And check on it occasionally to make sure there's still things in each price range. Some people don't have that much money, or they want to spend $150 and they buy a $130 item and want a $20 item to make it even. And some people like to buy an assortment of cheaper things and put them together in a basket--like kitchen implements with a cookbook and kitchen towels. Stuff like that.
And as others have said, make sure you pick good stuff. Don't feel bad about how much you're asking for--don't buy the most expensive item in every category, but don't get the cheapest either so you don't look greedy. Get what you want, and make sure it's something that will last.
Have fun with it!

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I feel the same way but on our registry the prices vary greatly, we have inexpensive things, moderate and then a few expensive things...But nobody is going to feel expected to buy something they can't afford...Let them pick what they want to pick and they wont spend more than they want to. They know usually expensive things like china the parents buy or alot of times the bp chips in and gets it.
BTW i personally don't think that the things you listed are expensive so don't worry...Most coffee machines now also do cappuccino, espresso or there are alot of high tech ones so $100 is actually not bad...and $50-60 for anything is not alot so dont worry

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I don't think BBB is extremely expensive. Their prices are comparable to other stores. I'm not so much concerned about prices as I am about quality. I find the website epinions.com helpful because other people write reviews on appliances and gadgets that they have purchased. The website also lists the top ten appliances in each category. Very helpful when decided between a kitchenaid and cuisineart for example. You may also want to consider appliances that offer lifetime warranty or that you know won't break down quickly.

Re: BBB Registry ...items too expensive???? HELP
I had the same reaction while starting to register, but I think that for the larger chains, BBB is definitely on the less expensive side of the scale.
Register for a range of things, and (as you may have already heard) the great things about BBB are 1) Their awesome cash back policy 2) their coupons never expire 3) you can go in and get an addition 10%off for any items you like.
