Dumb question: How do you address 2 people who are married but have different last names?
Friends of ours are getting married next week & we just learned that the bride is keeping her last name. How do we address their invitations? Mr John Doe & Mrs Jane Smith?

I would think exactly the way that you just wrote it. Mr. John Smith & Ms. Mary Jones. That's what I am doing.

Some women who don't change their name use the Mr. and Mrs. title for social purposes. I had the same situation and I asked the couple how I should address their invitation

Re: Dumb question: How do you address 2 people who are married but have different last names?
It depends on the relationship with the couple. If say the wife is your friend it would be
Mrs. Mary Jones Mr. John Smith
If the relationship is with the husband it would be the other way with Mr John Smith first.

Re: Dumb question: How do you address 2 people who are married but have different last names?
Not sure what is right but this is what I am doing....
I only have the situation where the wife is my/our friend. In any case where I have this I am not close to the husband. I am addressing the outer envelope to the girl (Ms. Melissa Smith) and on the inner envelope I am putting both first names (Melissa and Dennis).

I did on two different lines...alphabetically...
Ms. Mary Jones and Mr. John Smith
except for relatives...then I put the relative first...
