FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

I don't know what is worse - having a completely uninvolved FH or a FH who gets in the way and has bad ideas!

FH has been saying, "we have a year" for the longest time. With the wedding 5 months away, he is FINALLY involved.

My FH didn't want to do anything either. So I just asked to take care of one thing a month. Somethings took a little longer because we were lazy but it wasn't so overwhelming for him.

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

My FH wants to be involved...meaning I do the research on what vendors to see, I make the appointments, I compile a list of questions to ask...and he'll come with me and put his two cents in when it comes time to decide . Sometimes I wish he didn't want to be "involved" so I could just get things done and do what I want...I guess that sound a little selfish.

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

DH didn't lift a pinky through our entire process. maybe i am lucky, because then we didn't disagree on his opinions but we got in arguments because it stressed me out, doing everything and making every decision on my own.
congrats on him finally waking up and smelling the coffee better late than never!

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

Not sure how to react to this thread.

it's weird. We just got engaged in october, and realizing that we have a high traffic date in mind, got in gear and have started nailing down the big things. But a lot of this stuff neither FW nor me have strong ideas. Example: Video- should we get it? Photos- what package do we need/want? Do we just want a ton of 4-6 proofs? Do we really need a huge album? is it worth it to just do the album ourselves? how many hours of coverage do we need? do we need photos at an alternative location?

We haven't had any major clashes of ideas yet, although we found out that there's nothing halakhic about spending a week apart, so she'd rather see me that week, and I'm not sure.

Just remember, ladies, its our wedding too. Even if the only things we care about are good people, good food and booze, and a bomb-a** party. Even if we don't always get as involved as you'd like in the planning, we really do want it to be an awesome day.

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

My DH was very involved. Every time I turned around he would remind me it was his wedding too. Once he even said - just try and marry me without me being there.

Be happy that he is involved even if you don't like his ideas.

Just some thoughts. Almost everyone that has not gotten a video has said they regret it, and I don't know of anyone that paid for the video and thought it was a waste of money. As for the photos - together with the video that is what captures the memories of the day. When you flip through the pictures things come back to your mind and make you smile. A bunch of proofs is nice, but an album that is put together properly will tell the story of the day. If you or the FW are very computer literate, putting together an album yourself may be the low cost option that is right for you. IMHO, full day coverage is best. You won't be there to see her getting ready, but the photos and the video will open up a window to the day that you were not a part of after the fact. As for photos at an alternate location - only you can decide if your ceremony & reception location offer you the scenery/backdrop/ambiance you want reflected.

Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

Thanks October Bliss!

Also, your special day was a special one for us, as when you were getting married, I was proposing to my fw in an apple orchard! That's not a date twin, but I'm sure someone's come up with some term for it.

I feel the same way sometimes, but then I think about it and wouldn't want it any other way. My FH has had some great ideas. I never thought he would be involved.

Re: FH is finally involved in wedding planning!

MY FH has barely been involved in our planning, and I like it that way. I must say, the few ideas he did give me are pretty good though, but we all know whose wedding this really is, lol.
