Help! How Many Dress Shops?

Hello ladies! I need your help please. My MOH and I are going on Thursday for my first dress shopping excursion. Needless to say, I am excited! But at the same time, I am a bit nervous since I am nowhere near a 'Bridal Sample Size!'

Anyway, here is the list that I have compiled of places to go on Long Island:

Bridal Elegance
Bridal Suite of Bay Shore
Blanchee's
Lillette's
Bridal Reflections of Massapequa
David's Bridal of Westbury

Is this a ridiculous list to get thru in one day? My MOH is taking the day off from work so we can go together. I live in Queens and she lives in Massapequa. I'm trying to be realistic and not kill us by attempting to go to a million places!

Any ideas on the amount of shops to visit in one day? I am trying to keep the dress price pretty low [no more than about $1200]. Are there any shops that I've listed that I can cut out all together? Also, since I am not skinny, does anyone have insight as to shops that I've listed carrying sample sizes bigger than the usual size? Any advice or suggestions would be sooo appreciated!

I know you are going on a Thursday but I would check with the boutiques if you need to make an appointment even during the week.

Thanks for the heads up! I have checked with the shops' websites. Lillette's is the only one that accepts walk-ins. I want to make appts. but I figured I'd check first on here, to see if I am being ridiculous in the amounts of places I have on my list to go to! I am so clueless!! Thanks for your help!

Re: Help! How Many Dress Shops?

For me, personally, that would be far too many. I could manage 2 - maybe 3. So far, I've only ever done one place in one day.

As much fun as it is and as exciting as it is, for ME, personally, it got old fast. I can only try on so many dresses in one day before they all look the same, and I think when all is said and done, I'll only look / try on in 3 or 4 stores max.

I fell in love with a dress in the first store I went to, but am going to a few more just to make sure I don't find something I love even more.

If, however, you are SUPER excited about this, then I'd go to maybe 3 or 4 places. I don't think I could do 6 in one day!

Good luck - and have a great time!

Re: Help! How Many Dress Shops?

Oh my, I think 6 is just too many in one day!! It sounds silly but dress shopping can be tiring and take a lot out of you, I wouldn't do more than 2-3 in a day. Between the travelling, the service, and actually changing back and forth things can get kinda overwhelming. You don't want to take on too much in one day and confuse yourself over the amount of dresses that you'll be trying on. I'd pick 2 or 3 (at the most) and try to visit those first. If you haven't found "the one" then go visit the other 3 another day.

ETA: I'd give yourself about 1-2 hours in each store.

Have fun!!!

Re: Help! How Many Dress Shops?

If I were you, I'd start at the store's with the largest selections (ie Kleinfeld's) and try on a vast array of different styles to narrow down what KIND of dress you actually want.

You can try on many dresses at one store. You don't need to go to multiple stores in one day.

Many stores carry the same dresses so I'd try to go to the store with the largest selection. Later on, you can comparative shop and look for the details you love most.

Thanks for the advice Kara! The more I think about it, the more I realize how crazy I am to even THINK that I could go to all of those stores!

Yay Evelyn!! Congrats!! I am pretty limited in when
I am going shopping, that's why I am trying to get everything in! My Mom lives in Georgia and is coming up Dec 12-16 to go dress shopping with me, and I basically have to pick my dress by then! Ugh! Talk about stressful!! Good luck to ya and let us know how it goes!!

Re: Help! How Many Dress Shops?

I would limit shopping to 2-3 stores per day. As to your other question regarding pricing and stores - I'm pretty sure that Bridal Reflections of Massapequa only has dresses over $1000. The one in Carle Place didn't have dresses under $1500 when I went to look.

I would call Lillette's and double check with them about not needing an apt. I bought my dress from there a few weeks ago and when I called originally they told me I must have an appt in order to try dresses on.

Have fun!!

Re: Help! How Many Dress Shops?

As for the sizing- I am not skinny wither and Bridal Reflections in Massapequa had quite a few dresses with adjustable sizing. The gowns had several different zippers, this way the attendant just zips the one that fits you best. Also, many Maggie Sottero Gowns have corset backs..which also allow for a bit of adjustable sizing! Have fun!

Hi Keri! Thank you for the insight about Bridal Reflections in Massapequa!! How smart they are with the sneaky zippers! But I gotta tell ya- you look pretty skinny to me in your photo album pics! And I love Maggie gowns!! I am hoping that they look good on me! Thanks again!

that's too many... you'll get confused and forget what you liked and didn't like... i would do 3 at the most.

also, don't worry about being a sample size... i am a size 14 so needless to say, no way was i getting into the 6 and 8's they have as samples. they have special clips that they use to get you in the dress... don't worry!

Dont' stess about your chubbiness. . . . I didn't... they work with every body type... although i will stress NEXT week when i go to try it on... i've had at least 5 nightmares about how it won't fit! LOL...

i got my dress at Lillette's in Baldwin..t hey have lots of Palomas. i also looked at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa... they had a lot too, but Lillette's was cheaper and closer to my house so i went with them,
