Dress Shopping

I have my first appointment in less than 2 weeks! I'm pretty, excited, but kind of dreading getting squeezed into dresses for people like half my size.

But anyway... I have some questions...
First of all, what do you do if you find a dress that you absolutely love... keep looking, or order that one?

On average, how long did you spend in each salon/shop/whatever?

Is there anything I need to/ should bring?

Thanks!

O yea and any other tips you have would be helpful!

Re: Dress Shopping

when i went, i only looked in one place... when i found the dress i loved, i thought about it. i went back a week or 2 later, tried on that dress again, as well as another one and and when i saw it on that 2nd time, i was sure. if you find one you love, i wouldn't buy it on the spot - i would sleep on it for a few days, just to be sure. if you keep thinking about it, you know it's the one
if you have pictures of dresses you like, bring them with you... even if they don't have that exact dress, at least they will be able to get an idea of your style and what you like.
good luck and have fun!

Re: Dress Shopping

If you find a dress you love I wouldnt buy it on the spot. I did this and while I love my dress, I felt like I missed out on trying on all the gorgeous dresses out there. If you fall in love with a dress, keep it in mind and u can always come back to it. Congrats on starting dress shopping and enjoy it. As for the bridal salon's, I think most provide you with shoes and a bra to try on the dresses with, so you dont need to bring those.

Re: Dress Shopping

Don't worry about squeezing into the dresses - trust me, it's not that bad!

Definitely wear a strapless bra and good underwear... and panty hose if you plan to wear them to the wedding. I'd also bring high heels because the dress simply looks better with them on. Yes, some places have shoes and strapless bras there for you to use -- but the sales ladies really appreciate it when you just come dress / prepared on your own. I've had more than one sales person comment about that to me. (Plus, I really don't want to wear a store-bra, and not every place will have them in all sizes -- same with the shoes).

I spent an average of about 1 - 1.5 hours in each place. I'm sure I could have spent longer if I wanted to, but I really didn't want to wind up trying on 50 dresses.

I fell in love with a dress at the first place I looked - haven't purchased it yet. I went to another store to try on dresses over the weekend and hated them. I'm going to go to Klienfeld's this week and then I'll make my decision. Don't buy a dress you fall in love with on the spot -- remember, these dresses are NOT one of a kind - it'll still be available for you to order in a month after you've tried on other dresses and are absolutely sure!

And have fun! I was so worried about trying on dresses that didn't fit me, but it really was fun, even if I couldn't zip the darn things up!

Re: Dress Shopping

Usually salons have a maximum time limit that you can spend there but how long you are there really depends on the size of their selections. Even if you find the dress you love right away keep looking you can always go back and order the dress. Wear a good suportive bra and bring some heels.

Oh yeah....and HAVE FUN!!!
