Marriage License and Divorce...is proof needed????
We have yet to get our marriage license, and are supposed to do it this week, and my fi doesn't have the paper, which hasn't been sent by the lawyer. Does anyone know if they just ask questions on the form, or if you need proof of the divorce?

It's all about marriage licenses in NY State.

When I called the court clerk, she said that sometimes they just ask on the form the date of divorce/or when a former spouse died. I'm looking for first hand accounts of any brides here that have been married, or whose fiances have been married before.

You will need a divorce decree (which you can get from vital statistics, or the divorce papers filed by your lawyer.

Been there, done that, you need the divorce decree, but NOT a xerox copy. You must have one with the raised seal on it

Thanks everyone. My Fi and I are taking off from work next week to go to Manhattan and get the proof, then we are going to get our marriage license

Actually, does anyone know if a death certificate is required ?? - my fiance is a widower. Do you think we need to bring a copy of his first wife's death certificate??
