Plus sized bridesmaid dress
The search for our bridesmaids' dresses continues... One of my girls has gained a lot of weight in the past few months, and we are having trouble trying on dresses. It seems like most shops we've visited have samples to try on that are size 8 or 10 or so. We can't even get a dress of that size on her unzipped. Has anyone come across a bridal shop that carries plus sized dresses to try on? We know it won't be a problem to order a dress in her size, it's just that she would really like to try something on first. This bridesmaid is my most bestest friend in the entire world, and I really want to help her feel good about herself and feel pretty in a dress that is flattering. Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Plus sized bridesmaid dress
This is a really tough situaion. Unfortunately, I don't have the best of news for you. My FSIL had this problem when we were looking for bridesmaid dresses for her wedding. Her sister is plus sized. We must have called over 20 shops in LI and Queens to see how many dresses they carried plus sized dresses and it is really shameful how many places do not. (I wish I still had that list for you.) They say the mfg rarely sends them dresses in those sizes so I course the shops don't order any to help out...and the people in the store said it is a common demand.
We bought our dresses in Flowerama in Glendale. They don't have a big plus sized selection but the do have some.

Re: Plus sized bridesmaid dress
I was a plus size for a VERY long time.. for three weddings as a BM and MOH and when i had to order my own gown..I was a size 20 then.. luckily for me i am a 9 now.. but it was a nightmare.. watching the thin girls able to try on the dresses and never able to try them on.. sometimes i was lucky to get a store that had a sample of a 12 or a 14 VERY RARE..i pretty much had to suck it up and just have them take my measurements and not try the gowns on until it came in.. i was lucky in that no one picked out skimpy dresses that wouldnt loook good on me...when i went for my gown i didnt want to try on the plus sizes cause they are so different looking then the rest.. i SQUEEZED on the sample..i think i even ripped it a little..

Re: Plus sized bridesmaid dress
I totally hear you.. SInce most dress manufacturers like the whole world is a saize 8 or 10 you might just have to think about what the dress would look like I was in my friends wedding and all the girls wore a size 4 and smaller I was in a size 18 and the dress was very tight ontop and i looked like a beached whale...so just try to visualize what the dress would look like...also go for a style that will not accent her most unflattering places.. Bari Jay makes the most dresses that run larger. Most manufacturers run very small Try the wedding center in Commack they might have more dress samlple in bigger sizes.... Hope this helps
