A very Kitty Wedding: Tall Grass CC, Golden Moments, Port Jeff Florist, Maria D'Leon, Angelica Glass Day After Shoot, Tommy's Tunes, & more! French Polynesia Bora Bora Moorea honeymoon on page 4!
I had, what I like to think, was a really unique wedding. I wanted it very personal, from writing our vows (we actually wrote our vows and then re-wrote almost the whole ceremony), to the décor (I wanted to have a big tree in it and a whole fall theme with tons of DIY stuff), to the entertainment (we do not like 'popular' music). We are really into music - as LOC would say 'not music snobs, music geeks'. We listen to indie/underground mostly. We KNEW we could NOT have 'regular' music at our wedding. We also knew if we played OUR music, no one would dance, it's very mellow so it's more like background music. We were OK with that, but if people weren't going to dance (which less than 25% of the people do anyway according to the DJ companies) then we needed to find some sort of alternative entertainment. We wanted our guests to have fun! We kicked around a bunch of ideas but settled on a casino. **please note, we're both a little older, I'm 33 & DH is 42. I was the youngest person at my wedding! I think having an older crowd allowed us to have our wedding this way**
The biggest ‘special touch’ thing (for me anyway) was that I got the actual band that does our first dance song to come play it live as a surprise to my DH. I have been talking about this since I signed on to LIW!! When we got engaged, we knew that we would use the song "You" by Freekbass as our first dance. It has a deep meaning to us and it's one of DH's favorite bands. I contacted them right away - I NEVER thought they'd e-mail me back or anything - and told them the story of us and why that song was so special. I couldn't believe it but he e-mailed me within 15 minutes!! But he said they couldn't commit to anything until like 6 months before. Long story short - THEY CAME!! ...and DH was TOTALLY surprised!!!!!!!!!

You can hear my DH on the video say “ARE YOU KIDDING ME??”

Thank you Ron & Liz!! LIW was great. I learned so much. I came in late in my planning so I already had booked most of my vendors, but I WISH I had been on here before I booked things (like my photographer) This is SUCH a great resource and I have made some GREAT friends here!! I attended 4 weddings of other brides which was fun and going to LIW GTGs, this is such a great place to meet people, get ideas and talk to women who are in the same place as you – as kahlua716 says in her avatar “I love my computer because my friends live in here”.
Weather I can't rate the weather but it poured TORRENTIAL rain for my outdoor ceremony and outdoor cocktail hour and then cleared up once we were inside
VENDORS
Reception hall & ceremony site - Tall Grass Country Club, Shoreham, NY - A+ Lessings Tall Grass
Planning So now we had what kind of wedding we wanted, now to find a place. We were on a tight budget, we were paying ourselves. It seemed the places we could afford were not that nice, old or run down looking. So we went to visit Lessing's Tall Grass Country Club in Shoreham since we lived 5 minutes from it.
DH and I met with Janet, the banquet manager and immediately liked her. She was SO NICE to us! All the other halls made it seem like THEY were doing US a favor by 'allowing' us to have our wedding there. Janet made me feel like they (Tall Grass) WANTED to share our day with us. When I described some of my 'crazy' ideas, EVERYTHING I wanted she was saying 'no problem' and she seemed as excited as we were about some of the ideas. We booked Tall Grass ON THE SPOT! Since it was a Lessing's hall we knew the food would be good and that they had a great reputation.
Day of A+
We had SO MUCH going on - I had a tented ceremony & it was raining, I had so much decorative stuff I made to be put up and arranged, we had the casino coming in, we had the band we needed to hide from my DH and it was raining (did I MENTION that yet?? ) Anyway, they got EVERYTHING set up - EVERYONE on the staff at Tall Grass (including the BUS BOYS!) was helping out to make this happen. Janet & Michelle (banquet manager & maitre d) kept telling me how excited they were for my wedding because of all the details we had and how it was different than other weddings.
The food was excellent, there was SO MUCH at the cocktail hour and the menu I had to choose from was perfect for us. They had my special requested food in the bridal suite for me and everything tasted delicious. The staff was attentive, courteous & friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. They only have 1 wedding at a time and the whole place was just renovated and is beautiful. The room is gorgeous, the colors are perfect for my taste and the chairs are new and NICE, nothing looked cheap or tacky or rundown like many other places I looked at.
To say the staff was outstanding would be an insult. They bent over backwards for my wedding. They went out of their way on EVERYTHING, they were polite, friendly and accommodating. So many of my guests commented to me through our wedding at how nice everyone at Tall Grass was and how PERFECT everything was. Just last week my co-worker said to me "You know when you to go a wedding something always goes wrong. Tim and I were talking about it yesterday and NOTHING went wrong at your wedding!!" She was SO RIGHT about that. Yes, it POURED rain, but no one even seems to remember that part! I COULD NOT have pulled this off without the staff at Tall Grass!!

Ceremony set up I created Tall grass does not provide anything in the tent. My friend made us the arbor, I bought the mums and all the grasses, made the ribbon curtain in the back & hung tea lights along both sides.

Officiant: Mike McNamara - A+++ - FM me for details!!
The ceremony, the act of getting married, was most important to us, he gets the extra "++" because it was the most beautiful, personal ceremony EVER!! (you think I'm biased at all?? ) But I have video PROOF of this!! Every single person that came up to us after the ceremony told us it was the most beautiful ceremony (or 2nd most beautiful after their own )they had ever attended. They knew we had written our vows, we didn't tell anyone we had, but everyone could just tell. I am disappointed in my photographer for many reasons, but one of the biggest is that I had 2 photographers, I could see in our video BOTH our Mom's crying, my sister crying, his sisters crying, other guests crying, they did not take ONE picture of the guests as the ceremony was taking place
I had TWO photographers! Guests laughing, crying, clapping, you thnk ONE of them could have gotten a shot of this! Anyway not to get off the subject... Many officiants I've seen didn't grab my attention, they kind of droned on. Everyone's wedding vows & ceremony sounded the same to me, not really personal, I loved how Mike incorporated US into the ceremony. Mike has a powerful, booming, authoritative voice, (even if he has an EVER so slight Brooklyn accent ). I HIGHLY recommend him. So many brides SAY their ceremony is the most important but do NOTHING for it. I don't want to come across as preachy, but I think writing our vows was HUGE. I really think people should take the time to do this!

DJ Company: Tommy's Tunes (Dominick) A+
http://www.djtommystunes.com/
With everything we had going on the party still flowed perfectly & he helped me surprise my DH with the band we had playing our 1st dace song! I met with Frankie so many times to help coordinate this crazy idea of US programming our entire wedding. Not ONCE was he negative like, "Oh, well, you play YOUR music and everyone will have a bad time" He was really supportive and made me feel like this whole thing WOULD really work! And for the DJ, having the band there could have been a nightmare to coordinate but they pulled it off PERFECTLY! I rented screens to hide the band and after our first dance song played on CD for about 30 seconds he made some horrible noise with the CD. Oh, I forgot to mention THE GUESTS did not know about the band, either!!!!! So everyone like gasped and was like, "oh, $hit!" and then Dominick said "Ummm... I'm sorry, this has NEVER happened before, I seem to be having some kind of problem..." and then he moved the screens away and you could see the band and they started playing!!! It was perfect & I couldn't have pulled it off without him. We didn't want a real "HEY I'M THE DJ!!" kind of guy and Dominick did everything just as we envisioned! He kept checking with me to see when I wanted to do things to make sure we had the wedding flow the way we wanted.

MUSIC! Since brides always ask I figures I'd put our 'songs' here. Music is SO IMPORTANT to us (I KNOW I've mentioned this 10 times already)!! DH is in a band and I just LOVE music. We had a mix of indie songs like Elliott Smith, Nick Cave, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Spain, Muse, The Eels, Billie Holiday, William Shatner, Calexico, Iron & Wine, Jose Gonzalez, The Shins, The Decemberists, Blur, The Pixies... all music we loved!! Just last weekend one of DH's friends called us and we could hear loud music in the background and he left a message on our machine: "Hi. I am at a wedding. It $ucks. The music is SO LOUD and I HATE disco and want to play blackjack." We were cracking up!! We really had SO MANY compliments on the fact that people could TALK because the music was just mellow indie music and they weren't bored because they were GAMBLING!! Most of our friends like the same music as us anyway, and the other guests loved that it was mellow.
CEREMONY: We used classical guitar & my DH's sister played the flute (GORGEOUS!!) but we used Muse's remake of "you're just too good to be true" for our recessional and it was really high energy & fun (a very 'rock' sound to it)
Parent's Entrance: Kind & Generous - Natalie Merchant Bridal Party Entrance: Peek a Boo - Siouxsie & The Banshees Our Entrance: Knights of Cydonia - Muse Our First Dance: You - Freekbass Cake Cutting: Lips like Sugar - Echo & the Bunnyman Last Song - Say Goodnight & Go - Imogen Heap
VIDEO - Songs we chose for our video: Into My Arms - Nick Cave You Are My Joy - Reindeer Section My Name is Love - Rob Dickenson Venus - Air Catch the Sun - Doves

Florist: Port Jefferson Florist - A+ - http://www.portjeffersonflorist.net/
The flowers were important to me. I wanted something really unique and showy. I had a vision for my centerpieces to be a big tall bundle of wheat and have a ring of fall colored flowers around the base with apples and roses. I made the wheat bundles and brought them to Kathy. She found the perfect size to go around them and they were GORGEOUS!! I got MANY compliments on them! The guests kept raving how different they were (and everyone who brought them home told me they lasted almost 2 weeks! I told her I wanted beech leaves & burgundy hydrangea in my bouquet and I wanted burgundy & orange callas and spray roses. She made SUCH a unique arrangement - it was SO DIFFERENT. She called me down to look at it the day before because she knew it was important to me and wanted me to love it. I told her to do whatever she wanted for the bridesmaids bouquets and she kept asking "what do you want? I want to make sure you love them!" I told her "Do WHATEVER you want - I totally trust you" They were GORGEOUS!!!! My girls LOVED them! I also had 2 HUGE pieces in the entrance to tall grass that my photographer didn't take pics of. They were 2 dozen roses each & gorgeous. I wanted pumpkin votives but of course, I was on a budget, so I gave her the pumpkin votives I made and she stored them for me & set them up! She also threw in my rose petals for petal cones and she gave me the curly willow I used in the vases I lined the aisles with for my ceremony (I alternated wheat and curly willow) and she did the curly willow for free, too! I had SO MUCH STUFF to set up for the ceremony & wedding and Kathy & another member of her staff came in early to help set up - even the things that I made myself, she still helped! OH! And she designed a really pretty comb for one of my bridesmaids hair, too! (another thing my photographer didn't take a picture of... ) and he didn't really take any pics of my flowers. He took one of my BM boquets, but not mine! Oh, and I order a lot of flowers from Kathy & she knows I like thistle (it looks like a star and it's a purplish color) so even though it wasn't on my list of flowers she remembered that I liked it and put them in the bo-ks!

My Bo-K found a pic he took where you can see it clearly:

Sorry for the blurry pic - photographer

Videographer: Pat at Golden Moments Films - A+ (day of) Video A+ (LOVE the video), customer service of Pat after the wedding B+ http://www.goldenmomentsfilms.com/
Originally we said NO VIDEO!!! I am SO GLAD WE CHANGED OUR MINDS!!!!! I only did it because I wanted to get the band on video, but now that we have it I am SO GLAD we did it!! I KNOW we would have regretted it if we didn't do it. Pat was great to work with - he really cared about getting things on film that we had done & he noticed & complimented all our details. It really made me feel good that he NOTICED those things. When I told him I was getting mad at my photographer he said "Well, it's my job to stay OUT of the photographer's way" but when I asked him to help, he made some suggestions to my photographer and that was a BIG help to me. I told Pat I didn't want to know he was there and he TOTALLY respected that - I didn't even know he was there half the time, he just stood back and let the day happen and that was important to us, we didn't want our guests to feel 'put on the spot' and he was the PERFECT choice! He ALSO was very understanding about my budget and helped me get what I needed within my budget.
UPDATE!! I HAVE MY VIDEO!! I LOVE MY VIDEO! Pat did an AMAZING job!! I absolutely love it. The reason I gave 'customer service' a "B" is because I called him on a Thursday, he said "I'm mailing your video on Saturday" TWO WEEKS later on a Thursday, I called and said "Hey I never got it" He said, "I'm mailing it tomorrow". I got it Tuesday. I received 3 copies, 2 of them don't work (they're all scrambled) so I called him and he said he's send me 2 new ones. That was like 2 months ago. I still don't have them. ALSO, he has been promising since November that I would get my unedited video and I never got that either and I’ve asked him for it FOUR times. HOWEVER, the video is AMAZING, and he's SO GREAT to work with ON the day of, it's not a huge deal, just a little frustrating. I would still hire him in a heartbeat, he there when it counts. I will try to put links here at some point...

Makeup: Mia from BridaI Iounge - A+
She was on time and great to work with. My makeup was exactly as I envisioned & she did all my bridesmaids hair - they were all beautiful. I had 3 trials with her because I kept changing my mind and she was a pleasure EVERY time. She gave 100% at each trial. My makeup looked flawless and all my girls had the hair style they wanted. Even though it rained and I cried, my makeup stayed perfectly.
I loved my makeup!

Mia did my Mom’s hair and makeup & ALL my bridesmaids hair and makeup

Good shot of my sister's hair:

My Hair: Maria D'Leon - A+ Maria D'Leon 50 W. 34th St. Suite 21C9 New York, NY 10001 Phone: (212) 563-9879
Her talent speaks for itself - she is AMAZING!! I had had 3 hair trials and I just couldn't get a look I loved, and I didn't feel the people I had trials with gave me any advice on how I should get this look I wanted. I knew I wanted my hair down because Dean (like most men!) liked my hair down and I wanted him to see me coming sown the aisle and MELT! EVERY picture I see of hair by Maria D'Leon I just drooled over. I e-mailed a bride on here and asked her about her hair and of COURSE, how much $$ is it. She said "You're spending all this money on a photographer and dress and veil, if you have cr@ppy hair, THAT'S what you'll notice in the pics in the future!" She was SO right - with the money I threw away on other trials I could have paid for Maria D'Leon anyway! So I called the salon and made the appointment. YES, she was expensive AND WORTH EVERY PENNY. NO, I DON'T just think it's because they're well know, I think they REALLY are the best, I HAD many other trials and no one could create the look I wanted!! Maria did FOUR different styles for me. I needed extensions because I have BABY fine hair. Other extensions I had tried looked SO FAKE - I look at pics of other girls trials and I can TOTALLY tell when they have extensions, but the ones they sell at Nelson D'Leon Salon look totally REAL and they're comfortable, I had them in all day and I could forget they were in because they didn't pull or give me a headache. For my trial she did 2 from pictures I brought and 2 others she thought would look good on me. She gave me suggestions on how to pose in pictures and she recommended lightening my hair and growing it out. She was SO RIGHT about EVERYTHING! I was considering growing it out anyway, but her suggestion to grow it out and to lighten it made a huge difference in how I looked. My DH thought I looked GORGEOUS - he said "I will NEVER get the image of you walking down the aisle toward me out of my mind" All of the women kept coming up to me and asking about my hair - NO ONE could tell I had extensions in!! Even with the rain and EVERYTHING going on, my hair looked EXACTLY the same at the end of the night!!
My hair – Maria D’Leon

OK, so now Wedding day photographer - C+ I am EXTREMELY disappointed in my photographer. He missed SO MANY PICTURES I can NEVER get those back He is retired now so it doesn't matter who he is . I TOTALLY had a bad feeling about my photographer after I booked him and I SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH MY GUT!!!!! I TOTALLY regret not having a better photographer. He missed a lot of shots, and many others were blurry or the lighting was off.
DAY AFTER PHOTO SHOOT photographer Angelica Glass: OMG she's a GENIUS!! A+ http://www.angelicaglass.com/
I don't think I even need to SAY anything about Angelica - just LOOK at her work - it's freakin' amazing!!! So, not only did my photographer MISS a lot of pictures, I didn't really like my proofs. I have TOTALLY loved Angelica's style since the first time I saw her work, but it was already too late for me, I had my photographer booked and I couldn't cancel (long story...) Sooooo, DH & I got dressed up again and went to a park by our house and Angelica took the pictures of us!!!! She is SOOOO totally cool and told us EXACTLY how to pose which we really needed. She is SO creative with posing. She got all dirty and full of nettles (thorny stuff) laying on the ground to get good shots - she was sooo patient! She was 45 minutes early and stayed an hour longer than she was supposed to. ANYTIME I have e-mailed her she's responded within an hour (even on a Saturday, although is she had a wedding obviously she can't respond!) She was so professional and I feel privileged to have worked with her. I don't know HOW she does it - I feel like we looked like models and the pictures have so much SOUL to them. They're completely magical!

DAY AFTER PHOTO SHOOT hair & makeup: Maria D'Leon A+ Maria D'Leon 50 W. 34th St. Suite 21C9 New York, NY 10001 Phone: (212) 563-9879
She normally works in the city and travels to you for your wedding. Since this was the 'day after shoot' I wanted to save some money so I went to her. She knew I lived on LI so she invited me to her HOME so I wouldn't have to travel as far! I thought that was SO NICE of her. She did my hair a little different since I didn't have to worry about a veil and it wasn't raining and I liked it even better!! My makeup was 'traditional' instead of airbrushed and I thought it looked beautiful. These pics are by Angelica Glass

Invitations: You're Invited A+ http://www.youreinvited.net/
Yet another thing my photographer didn't take a picture of... They were gorgeous. They totally fit my theme. I loved the font that was used for it so much I actually bought it and used it in all my DIY! I doubt anyone noticed, but I like that it did anyway! I know many people feel "Oh, well, people just throw them out..." People just throw everything out from your wedding! I wanted people's first impression of our wedding to be WOW. So we chose an elegant but whimsical design to set the tone. I think this is the only thing people see of your wedding before you get there so if you want to set the tone for your day, that's the way to do it! We got a bunch of phone calls and comments on the RSVP cards about how people liked the invitations.
I attempted to take a pic, they were sooooo pretty!!

Casino: Full House entertainment A+ http://www.casinoparty4u.com/aboutus/
I am SO GLAD I used Full house entertainment - they were SO GOOD!!!!!! I would definitely recommend them! I got SO MANY amazing pics from the casino - I had roulette, blackjack, texas hold 'em & craps tables. All the guests were raving about how funny & nice the dealers were. If you didn't know how to play they showed you exactly how to play and nothing was intimidating at all. They 'closed' the casino during dinner at my request and then had it back in full swing until the end. We got money personalized with out picture that the guests cashed in for real clay casino chips and the guests could play whatever they wanted. We provided a prize for the top winner. I wish we could have afforded to have prizes for the top 3 but we just ran out of $$ I know I mentioned it earlier but we really had SO MANY compliments on the fact that people could TALK because the music was just mellow indie music and they weren't bored because they were GAMBLING!!

Dress: Pronovias - PURCHASED from Wedding Salon of Manhasset -A it was TOO FAR for me to do alterations there. No problems or anything
OK, so they totally messed up the price of my dress in my favor there!! I called Wedding Salon to see if they had the dress I wanted & the price, she told me over the phone the dress was $2000 and then 10% off if I bought it the first time I went into the store so I'd pay $1800. I had tried it on at Bridal Suite in Bayshore and it was $2000, so that sounded right, I was just nervous about buying at the Bridal Suite (irrational fear!! They were super there, too!) So my Mom & I went to Wedding Salon and it was so nice and elegant at the store I said "OK, I'll take it!" So they measured me & they wrote it up at $2700 with 10% off! I said "HOLD ON!! They told me $2,000 with 10% off!!" So she checked the book and next to my appointment she wrote in the margin "$2K w/10% off $1800" so they DID honor that price, but she showed me her price sheet and it was supposed to be $2700... So I'd say Bridal Suite in Bayshore probably has the lowest prices AND you CAN negotiate with them because I did on my BM gowns.

Veil & Headpiece: Bridal Suite in Bayshore grade: B
I waaaaaaaaaaay over paid. I am SURE it would have been cheaper elsewhere. They ordered me the WRONG TIARA and tried to blame it on ME!! I actually made the manager go on my LONG ISLAND WEDDINGS photo album to show her the one I ordered. So they made me wait like an hour but had one in stock and DID fix the problem. I am mad because they 1. tried to blame ME and 2. I asked them when I ordered it, when they told me it was in AND when I called to pick it up "IS THE VEIL ATTACHED" and they kept telling me YES and when I go there it WAS NOT, however since it was the WRONG tiara that was a GOOD thing. They also steamed it weird because my veil was SO IN MY FACE all through the ceremony I had to take it off. I had planned on leaving it on all night and I couldn't because it was so annoying.

Alterations: Fantasia Bridal, Rocky Point another one who went WAY above and beyond - A++
So, as some of you know I was not happy with my dress when it came in because it was a mermaid and I didn't realize that when I bought it. When they clipped me into it, it was VERY big and they only clipped it to my waist so I thought it was fitted to the waist and then flared out. Also, I didn't realize I would not be able to move my arms AT ALL because of the portrait type neckline - I would NOT have been able to put my arms around my DH for our first dance!! Sophie (sr081906) was another bride on here who I met at GTG’s – she said “Kara – we NEED to go out together and get you a new dress! You HAVE to be happy!” I kept saying “Oh, it’s OK, it’s good enough, I am marrying the man of my dreams, who cares about the dress!” She said “Yes, but if you’re uncomfortable and can’t MOVE it will SHOW through in your expressions and demeanor, you NEED to be comfortable in it!” I knew she was right but what was I going to do? I didn’t have $$ to buy a dress and I didn’t think I could buy off the rack and get it sized for me in time.
So I had a brilliant idea to cut the whole neckline apart on my dress FOUR DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING!!!!!!! I told Sophie my idea and she was like, “GO FOR IT!” Soooooo - FANTASIA BRIDAL IS AMAZING!!!!!!!! I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GREAT THINGS ABOUT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maria, the seamstress BELIEVED in me and even though she was nervous about doing it with it being 4 days before the wedding, she CUT it!!!! She DID it - I had a totally custom gown. Everyone I told the idea to was like "Ummmm I don't think that's a good idea... but Maria (an Sophie of course!) BELIEVED in my idea and knew how unhappy I was - she was excited to show me when it was done and EVERYONE liked it better with the modified neck!

DH's Suit: Banana Republic - A OK, so I know I am WAY in the minority here but I don't' like tuxes. I just don't like how they look, they remind me of proms & waiters. I wanted DH to have a classic suit - I LOVE the way tan suits photograph and how great it looks with chocolate brown which is our bridesmaid dress colors. We looked at a bunch of suits but the Banana one was exactly what I was looking for!

Our Rings: Victorian Poesey rings (his says 'from my soul' mine says 'you and no other') The Crystal Realm A+
http://www.crystalrealm.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_main.html?p_catid=16
Your rings are the ONE CONSTANT daily reminder you have of your vows to each other. I can't think of anything more important than that! You'll be wearing your ring every day for the rest of your life. Your wedding pictures are great, too, but you probably won't have them out and look at them everyday for the next 20 year like your rings! We wanted something really special so we chose the poesey rings because they have such special meanings. The woman's name is Mandira at Crystal Realm and she's very sweet. When we ordered ours she was so happy and saying how no one had ordered them before and she wanted to take pics of the rings for her website and she wanted a pic of us at the wedding because she wants to start a wedding page... So this is what a poesy ring is: In 16th and 17th century England or France, a wedding ring would invariably be inscribed with a sentiment of love, faith, and hope: a short love poem or "poesy". A sterling silver betrothal ring would often be replaced with the same poesy ring in gold upon marriage.
The popularity of these poesy rings is attested to by their frequent mention in Shakespeare's plays. The tradition is older than Shakespeare's time, but it was during the Renaissance (14th-17th Centuries) that the custom reached the height of popularity.

My e-Ring & matching band - Ritani: purchased from Solomon Brothers A+ http://www.solomonbrothers.com/
I fell in love with a bead set Ritani ring at Baily Banks & Biddle but didn't want DH to pay mall prices for the ring, and why get a designer ring when he could have the SAME ring made for less. So I gave him the picture and had no idea when we'd actually get engaged. He surprised me with an actual Ritani ring! I was 'mad' that he wasted the $$ on the 'brand' name but he said he saved a lot of money by buying it through Solomon Brothers. He also bought me the matching band to my e-ring so I have 2 wedding bands!
(I took this pic, my photographer didn’t think to take any of our rings )

BM Jewelry: Sweetwater Designs A+ http://www.sweetwaterdesigns.com/
Mar is the owner and she is GREAT!! She feels so 'honored' you want to use her for your wedding. She made my stuff totally custom to what I wanted - colors and style. Her website kind of stinks, but just e-mail her with what you want and she'll e-mail you back - she's really prompt. I paid less than $40 each (I think) and got 100% custom designed necklaces. Our BM dresses were chocolate brown & gold and I had SO MUCH TROUBLE finding something to match them - the necklaces were PERFECT and I see my BMs wearing them A LOT after the wedding!

My necklace: Macy's No real rating here - I went there, I loved it, I bought it!

My leopard shoes: Macy's - Steve Madden
No real rating here - I went there I bought them - I LOOOOOVED them!! I got so many compliments on them! Our guests loved that we had all those personalized things. No one can really see your shoes, so this is a place where you can let your personality show!
 (below pic by angelica glass)
 (below pic by angelica glass)

My BM's leopard shoes: Macy's
No real rating here - I went there I bought them - I bought all the girls their shoes as part of their gift. Our guests thought it was hysterical that the whole bridal party had leopard print shoes!

Personalized Barrel Matches: For your party A+
http://www.foryourparty.com/ Loved them, Perfect for my theme, guests loved the barrel design. Really different! We offered the guys (or women!) cigars at dessert so they were a great extra!

Table Covers: Lartisana
http://www.lartisana.com This was the FIRST thing I bought for the wedding! I knew my colors were Chocolate Brown & gold for fall and I wanted table covers because I thought they'd make a big impact in the look of the room. They looked gorgeous on the tables and with the gold chairs in tall grass they really complimented each other. We got a beaded copper colored on for our Dias table and a green one for the table the tree was on. It looked so nice!

Silk leaves and petals: Artistic Floral Design: A+ http://www.artisticfloraldesign.com/
The leaves were SO REALISTIC looking!!!!! I searched for WEEKS for ‘real looking’ silk leaves, and these were so real looking, you couldn’t tell them from fake ones!!! I spoke to the owner Valerie several times and she was VERY nice and VERY attentive. They do fabulous custom runners, too.

Cake Topper: Designs by Dorian A+ http://www.designsbydorian.com/
So I ordered a custom cake topper. I wanted my cats, one as the groom, one as the bride. The first company TOTALLY screwed up so then I only had 4 weeks left till my wedding. I contacted Designs by Dorian and they said "We can get it done" and they DID!!!!! They kept e-mailing me updates and I got to approve each stage - they are SO GOOD!! They're small, but they're PERFECT, I think they look exactly like my cats!! It was $200. I think figures of people are more expensive (maybe $250??). I highly recommend, them, though, they really came through when the OTHER place messed up! Go to the website or just e-mail him what you want with pictures, ask him for the price and he'll e-mail you back. I think the people figurines come out more like caricatures, but my cats are exact! His e-mail: details@designsbydorian.com

Aisle Runner: The Original Runner Company A+ http://www.originalrunners.com/
Runners can really add a nice touch to your wedding. I did not want one of those white, thin, see through runners. I know they make for a really GORGEOUS DIY when they're thin like that because you can trace through them, but I was concerned about them ripping or me tripping, so I sprung for the heavy material one. These runners are thick with a rubber backing & come in like 10 colors. I got chocolate brown because I didn't want the train of my dress & veil to blend in. One of the things my videographer said was "I LOVED that your runner WASN'T white!" I LOVE the look of other brides custom ones, but I was just worried about tripping or having it rip.

Cake: Create a Cake in Port Jeff - B
Looked NOTHING like the picture they had in the book - it was supposed to be white with chocolate embroidery. The embroidery wasn't really embroidery, it was just a little tiny design but the worst part is that it RAN! It was supposed to have leaves on the top tier that I dropped off to them and they were not on it, they were on the bottom. Everyone who I asked said it tasted good. It 'came' with the package at Tall Grass so at least I didn't pay for it.
It may have run because of the rain, but no one mentioned this to me!

Cupcake Tower: Create a Cake in Port Jeff grade: A No problems with it. Big hit. Looked really cute and DH ate one and said they were good.

Custom Stamps: Zazzle A+
EVERYONE noticed! I know some brides said they were 'too big' but I liked that you could see the pictures so well! I definitely recommend it for one of those added little details.

We also used them on our thank you's!

My BAD Vendor experience, www.clayfigurines.com a BIG FAT F!! I WOULD NOT ORDER FROM HERE! They are a company in Mexico and IMO think it's false advertising!! I ordered from them because the toppers on their site are sooo good. I sent them 10 pictures (5 of each cat) and a detailed description of my cats. They said how pretty my cats were and how they could do the topper. Their website says they would not be exact replicas (they never say that in an e-mail or on the order form), which is FINE, but these are SLOPPY and SMEARED, and look NOTHING like the NICE quality work they advertise. They delayed shipping twice and never e-mailed me to tell me it was delayed - I had to keep e-mailing to say 'What's going on' and they would e-mail me back after 3 or 4 e-mails and say “something came up, 2 more weeks...” that happened TWICE. When my topper finally arrived it was a piece of JUNK. I e-mailed them over 20 times about it and they NEVER replied and they have NO phone # and they're in Cancun Mexico so it's not like you can do much. I had to REORDER A NEW ONE FROM ANOTHER COMPANY and pay a rush fee!! I rarely post a negative because there are 2 sides to every story, but since I e-mailed them over TWENTY times and they IGNORED me, they obviously don't have a side to the story!! I TOLD them in SEVERAL e-mails if they didn't respond I would post their work and my negative experience on EVERY bridal board I could find, and clearly they don't care because they still ignored me! I asked them to do one of my cats - This was what they sent me - it looks like a 2 year old did it!! Pictures do not do justice to how BAD these are - the bottoms have TIN FOIL sticking out and you can see the persons FINGERPRINT IMPRESSIONS all over the clay, the paints all smeared... I could go on!!

My only other bad experience, Holiday Inn Express Stonybrook – C I was staying there the night before the wedding. I called 3 months in advance & booked the bridal suite. I called the morning of my wedding to confirm my reservation and told them I was checking in late. Long story short, they gave my suite away to someone who didn’t even have a reservation, I was put in a SMOKING room FINALLY at midnight. They were supposed to put me in a suite at 5am after someone else checked out so I could have room for my entire bridal party & mom and vendors to get ready. Well, they called me at 4am & woke me up to tell me the suite was ready, so I only got 4 hours sleep. I DO appreciate that they tried to 'fix' the problem and they DID get me in a suite, but I only got 4 hours sleep. Had there NOT been a problem I would have gotten 6.
**DIY's I did**
Wrote our vows and most of the ceremony We programmed every song at our reception with cross fades!
Programs

Menus

Tissue Packs

Giant tree with tea lights I made as a decoration in reception room

Leaves in a box with grass as placecards

Ceremony decor: vases I painted to match my theme to line the aisles, had a mahogany arbor built to be married under, I bought pots of mums & grasses (and brought them the morning of the wedding ) and had them put all around the arbor, candle chandelier for tent we were married in, tea lights hanging from the sides, ribbon curtain for behind the Officiant, Petal cones

Tea lights lined the sides of the tent, but since it rained & the tent walls were up, they were hard to see

DH's sister played the flute instead of doing a 'reading'

Bathroom baskets (no pic ) Coordinating guest towels in bathroom (from BB & B!)
I made wheat bundles for my centerpieces

My fall table numbers

Cardbox with our pictures

Pumpkin votives & pumpkin vases (carved out mini-pumpkins)

Favors - since we had th ecasino we did chocolate poker chips and a scratch off lotto ticket.

I made a sign for on the corner where you needed to turn for our hall

Bought plain toasting flutes and glued crystals on them to make a monogram

Wreaths for the double door entrance to Tall Grass

I am SURE I'm forgetting stuff here!
SOME OF MY ADVICE:
Do NOT do save the dates except for immediate family or for your DEFINITE OOT guests. We cut our guest list kind of last minute and were able to add some extras because of that. I am SO GLAD we weren't LOCKED into inviting people. Your guest list will change 10 times before you actually send out your invites! EVERY BRIDE will tell you weddings bring out the WORST in people, too, so you may lose some friends during the process. There were several co-workers I thought I would invite but in the end they wound up being fired a few months before my wedding AND left on REALLY bad terms, so I am SO GLAD I hadn't sent out STDs!
Wait to pick your bridal party, people you thought would be helpful or excited for you may not be. I wound up adding someone late in the planning because she was SO excited for me and SUCH a big help, it was a pleasure to add her.
If you have a really elaborate veil or train, maybe use a darker color for your aisle runner to show it off in pictures and the video (the white may just blend in)
Have your dress 'overshortened' & make SURE you check the length of the back when your dress is bustled. Almost EVERY bride will tell you people were stepping on the dress or the bride herself was stepping on her dress and pulled out her bustle. I asked them to not shorten it to the floor, but to make it 1" off the floor. I didn't have any problems. If you plan on changing your shoes for the reception to no heel/more comfy ones, you may even want to be fitted with those or you may be tripping over your dress all night!
No matter WHAT happens, you're marrying the man of your dreams and THAT'S the only thing that matters. ALL of my vendors complimented me and said how laid back I was and I think it's because I just said that to everyone, "All I care about is marrying Dean" it rained, so what, I married the man of my dreams. My pictures stunk, so what! I married the man of my dreams. I love him so much and I am so lucky to have him. Oh, and WRITE YOUR VOWS!!
More pics!! Almost in order!!
Getting ready at Tall grass - My DOUBLE SIDED TAPE!!
MY QUOTE ON VIDEO "If this can keep J-Lo's a$$ in her dress, it can keep my boobs in mine!!"
Me about to walk out - I was SOOOO nervous! I wanted to walk down the aisle alone. Janet, the BM of Tall Grass, was standing next to me and TOTALLY made me feel relaxed!
As SOON as I saw Dean, EVERYTHING melted away!
Dean seeing me for the 1st time (he had no idea what my dress or hair would look like)
Getting married - I made it through "I Kara, take you Dean..." and started crying (Happy tears of course!)

Dean's sister playing the flute - it was SO beautiful

Ring Exchange
KISS!!
Rose toss - the roses were going down my dress!!
Had to stall him outside so the band could do a sound check and Dean wouldn't her them. The photographer was whining "But it's RAINING" My Maitre D said "If the BRIDE is willing to get wet, you should GO OUTSIDE!!"

Some pics during the coctail hour - I was SO NERVOUS about the band surprise coming up!! When we were taking pics some guys in tuxedos walked by (they were from the casino) but Dean and I looked at each other like "Who are these guys??" and the STUPID photographer WHO I TOLD A MILLION TIMES "THE BAND IS A SURPRISE FOR DEAN" and I even went in person like 2 days before the wedding and reminded him said "Oh, maybe they're in the band." Thankfully Dean didn't pick up on what he said.

So, as I've mentioned about 100 times because it made me so happy to do this, I surprised my DH by having the band who actually does our 1st dance song come play it live (it's one of DH's favorite bands). They're from Cincinnati and the lead guy is an amazing bassist (which is what my DH plays). They were hiding behind these room divider screens I rented. (the photographer took no pictures of this...) The DJ started the song on CD and then had the CD make an awful noise and the music stopped... No one really knew (I was afraid someone would slip) so all the guests are like 'uh-oh' (and you can hear them gasp on the video it's so funny) the DJ said 'This has never happened - I am having some technical difficulties, let me check the wiring behind here...' and moved the screens and you can here my DH say "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" when he saw the band. I felt like in that moment he KNEW how much I loved him by making that happen. I was wondering if I would be able to tell if he knew or not, but from his reaction and happy tears I KNOW he was totally surprised!
OK, so our first dance started on CD all normal...
Here you can see the screens

When he first saw them

Where do you go from there?? Best man speech, Dean is shy and his Dad was saying such nice things, it made Dean nervous to be in the spotlight (even if he wasn't talking!)
Casino is open
No, the preist CAN'T help!!

Members of the band Dean plays in Soundpool - check them out on MySpace!! If you like shoegaze or dreamy rock you'll love them! http://www.myspace.com/soundpool
Everyone was clinking glasses for us to kiss
So we kissed and then everyone was tinking again so I said "I JUST KISSED HIM!!"
Eh, I don't mind kissing him!!
THEN everyone started tinking the glasses for THESE two to kiss...

Cake cutting
Our last dance

Just because I love them so much - some more angelica glass pictures!

My thank yous - kind of DIY - I couldn't pick one picture, so I did an accordion fold card and used 6 pictures! I got them from www.kodakgallery.com - since I ordered 100, they came to $2.39 each (i think) BUT I had a coupon for 25% off - they ALWAYS have coupons, if you want codes FM me, they change every week but they are always sending me different ones. The only complaint I have is that the envelope is double the size of the card so I need to find new envelopes that actually FIT the card. The only other little thing is that on the website they tell you what is 'front' and what is 'back' but when you get them they are already pre-creased (not pre-folded) but they are creased the OPPOSITE of what they tell you on the website, so you need to go against the pre-creased paper which makes one layer of the paper 'lift' a little just on that edge. It's not a big deal and no one would notice, it would just be easier to fold them all if you were able to use their 'pre-creases' rather than folding AGAINST what they already did for you.
UPDATE: I got envelopes that fit 'perfectly' - they're a touch snug, you really have to press the folds down on the accordion to get it in, maybe order the size abover what I got?? The thank you cards are 3 1/2" x 5" & these envelopes were 3 5/8 x 5 1/8. The envelopes were $24.95 + shipping & tax. http://www.actionenvelope.com/

You were a STUNNING bride. ABSOLUTELY beautiful. I loved your hair, makeup, dress, shoes, etc....
it so funny Anthony cant find a wedding band that he likes and a coworker suggested crystalrealm.com We've been looking at the celtic rings on the website.
Everything about your wedding looks BEAUTIFUL. It was refreshing to see something different. We're hoping to add a little lounge area in our reception room
The ceremony is our most important part. That is why we are getting married at the hall so we can do what we want. Actually Anthony and I having been writing our ceremony for over 2 years here and there even before we got engaged Thats why ive held of finding an officiant bc i want to dedicate my all in looking for the perfect one. I will fm you.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

Kara.... you were so beautiful! There are no words to describe you. You are the sweetest most compassionate person I have ever met. You are the friend everybody would want to have.
I am so glad:
1/ You cut the sleeves off.... You know I am not one to settle if unhappy. 2/ You redid your wedding pics.
Both came out as your best choices.
The love you and Dean have is the best treasure of all.

WOW! You had a BEAUTIFUL wedding! All your details, the BAND (I was crying reading that, thank you very much)! I love all your tips about STD and Bridal Party! I will keep it all in mind...
You wedding was an inspiration!

Word for word , picture for picture .. PERFECT.
All your special touches , even the way you told the story about your first dance song & having the actual band there was , PEFRECT....
You know I have been loving your sense of style., & the review just brings that to life,,,
Im so glad everything worked out for you in the end with the photographer, that stinks that he was a idiot, but u found someone to express your beauty & your whole personal touch of your day !!!
& You know i love your hair. !!! " That Girl " !!!
Your whole review is being notebooked !!! As I plan on stealing some of your ideas.. ( although i cant have the singer there for our first dance , hes dead) but that was really a asweet touch..
Oh & also the darker isle runner , you had a point , it let your dress stand out , ( mental note ). I only hope that Im as relaxed as you were & that everything turns out just as pretty as yours did !!!
