spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
Okay, seriously. How much does it hurt?
Now, in addition to how much does it hurt, how long does it last? Can they do it in 5 minutes? 10 minutes?
Also, and I'm probably getting into the TMI area, but do you have the same side effects of shaving (bumps / redness)?
Are you sore for a while afterwards? How long?
How often do you get it redone?
I'm dying to get this done, but I'm scared to go alone, and I just want to be prepared.
I was t hinking of going in the city (I work in the city), but wasn't sure if I could just go back to work after that!)
Any recommendations for places in Nassau (live in Lynbrook) or NYC (work in midtown).
Thanks!

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
have you ever had your legs waxed? same pain. there are areas that are more sensitive than others, and for each woman it's different. if you've had your legs waxed... it's similar to when they wax your ankles, that skin is more sensitive than your knees.
how long does it take depends on how squeamish you are.
not the same side-effects as shaving because you are not shaving.
you won't feel "sore" you'll feel "sensitive"... don't do any rough rubbing... like with your towel. just pat dry.
re-do depending on your hair growth
hth.

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
Thanks! That does help.
I may be squeamish the first time, but I'd rather they just go to town and get it over with.
Never had my legs waxed - just eyebrows!

I guess about the pain - I'm wondering if I can get it done in the city and be able to come back to work afterwards!

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
In answer to your questions
For me some spots hurt a ton and some not at all. My girl suggested taking some advil about 1/2 before to help with the pain.
It lasts about 2 weeks and then you have to let it grow for at least another 2 weeks before getting it done again.
At my place it takes about 15-20 minutes.
I am usually sore for the rest of the day (getting in done in the afternoon at about 3 pm). And the soreness is like when you pull up your undies make sure not to snap it against your skin. I am fine with my pants rubbing against it.
Sorry I go in queens so my place wouldn't help.

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
I've gotten it done a few times, but the growing out part is the hardest.
Also, for me, the best time to go is right in between my cycles. I went a few days before once and it hurt so much more I almost had her stop.
The place I go to is Completely Bare in Scarsdale. They are really quick about it.
HTH!

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
I think it costs anywhere from $50-100, with most places around $60. (At least, that's what I've found on the places I've found online!)

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
If I had someone to go with, I'd go in a heartbeat... And no! I don't mean someone to actually go in with me. Just someone to go to the salon with me... and let me go first b/c I couldn't stand the anticipation waiting around...
I still think I'll go, though.
I'm just taking everyone's advice and waiting until after this cycle ends. I need some time for the hair to grow in probably, anyway.

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
Okay, seriously. How much does it hurt? --------- It hurt me A LOT - keeping in mind I have fair skin - it hurts to the point where I"m sweating from pain, i bleed a little.. i definitely make muffled-yells
Now, in addition to how much does it hurt, how long does it last? Can they do it in 5 minutes? 10 minutes? ------- it was probably 20 minutes or so...
Also, and I'm probably getting into the TMI area, but do you have the same side effects of shaving (bumps / redness)? ------ i stay red for atleast 1-2 days..no bumps though
Are you sore for a while afterwards? How long? ------- sore enough to notice it for a solid couple hours; wouldn't go back to work
How often do you get it redone? -------- don't do it regularly cause i can't stand the pain; although the lady told me if I did do it regularly the pain would subside cause shaving makes hair thicker etc. I just can't bring myself to test her... i only did it for "special" occasions, i.e. vacas at the beach
I'm dying to get this done, but I'm scared to go alone, and I just want to be prepared. ---------- my mom came with me to the place; i got it done at Feel Well Salon in Wantagh, on wantagh ave, its $20-30

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
hi kara,
i get a semi brazilian wax once a month.. at the place i go to, she charges only $15 and i give a $5 tip...
when i say semi brazilian, i mean she leaves a "landing strip" of about an inch or so wide instead of very thin.. but otherwise she does the top, sides and all the way low to your butt...
the first time it hurt so bad.. but if you go once a month its really not that bad at all... and over the summer, i went to the beach last minute so i shaved and when i went back after that it hurt a lot... so never shave again, just keep getting bikini waxes, the more you do it the less it'll hurt...
anyway, the reward is fh loves it!.. enough said.

Re: spinoff - 101 questions about brazilian waxing
I've never done a Brazilian, but a lot of my friends go for it. It completely depends on the person. I suggest starting with a smaller wax - regular bikini first, then modified Brazilian, and then all the way if you can bear it. I've posted this a few times on here - my friend got a Brazilian 2 days before her wedding. It was so painful and bled so much that she had to go back the next day to complete it! The waxer wouldn't continue because she was bleeding so much (not gushing, but a lot for waxing). She was in pain ON her wedding day and it lasted a few days into the HM. She had trouble walking down the aisle! Now, I'm sure this is an extreme case, but until you know your reaction I say take it slow and start light.

i used her place in august. I guess it was my first time back in over a year and i had been shaving so it hurt like hell, but this lady was very nice. i was going to a woman in maximus in the source for a long time and she was awesome. for me since i was going once a month, it barely hurt. i just couldn't keep up with going and maximus gets crazy busy. i do though take an asprin before i go. don't drink before you go becasue you get more sensitive. i heard the j sisters in manhattan are very good.
