what is you decorating style?
DH and I are looking (cant wait to get out of his house) for apartments (called flats here  ) and we have narrowed it down to 2. we have to put offers in, we arent buying, but that is what they do in sydney and we look at furniture after looking at all the flats.
what is everyone's style? do you like wood (dark or light), neutral colours or neutral with bright etc. ikea?
would love to see some pics of your new places.

Sorry I don't have any pics but this is what we did. Light colors in the living room, makes it nice and bright for when we're entertaining. Then I've got dark wood in our bedroom for a more intimate, cozy feel.

You are a better woman than I am. There is no sports paraphernalia in common areas of my home. I wont allow it. HOWEVER, I did say that should we have a son someday, that we can have a sports nursery for him.

We decorate in earthtones-- they are calming. Our livingroom is sage green with cream accents-- khaki sofa, lt. green rug, wood floors, maple wood furniture. Our bedroom is in a cream shade with white accents, our comforter is cream and our bed pillows are cream and sage. We also have random decorations in sage in the br. Good luck! Go to Lakesidecollection.com for cheap furniture accents and target.com. also domestications.com for bedding. Have fun in australia!

Well, we rent our house, so we can't paint or anything, but I try to stay pretty neutral too. We have tan couches, wood tables, etc.
We have a lot of blues mixed in too..and pictures, I have a lot pictures.
A couple of weeks ago, I was at my friend's house and she has a red basement and it looks really cool! It is a "media" room and it looked great. She also has a tangerine bedroom and a sage green living room. The living room was accented by a lot of white and black and it looks really, really nice.

Actually, I'm a big sports fan too. So, we both contribute.
But seriously, I don't have any pictures. But the only room with anything new is our bedroom. It's main colors are olive and chocolate with sage (mint green) accents. I can't seem to find lamps though that we like that match. I keep trying.

We both like modern furniture, but comfortable modern furniture - so we aren't really into the Barcelona chairs or anything, mostly Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn, and some family antiques. Here are some pics of our living room/dining room (we also live in an apartment, so it's one big room!). 
ETA: We maintained the same style in each room, but did different colors. The livingroom (obviously!) is warm red; the guest room/office is dark navy with a sort of nautical theme; our bedroom is sage with accents of black and white (no pics yet though).

Pottery Barn style (is that a style?) Light woods, casual and beachy style. All the collections we pick out are called Cape Cod or Hampton. WE are planning to have a nautical theme in most of our house

OMG do we live in the same place??? you just described our apartment perfectly!!!
with regard to the sports paraphernalia, we have a 2 bedroom apartment and the smaller room we use as an office. DH was given this room to hang all of his yankee stuff (autographed photos, jerseys, balls, etc.). None of it is EVER to leave that room!

i love the more eclectic look. not too modern, not too traditional. i guess it's kinda hard to explain!

We're going to have a problem when we get a house, our tastes are not the same.
We both do like woods in a mid-range color. We shy away from very dark browns and light oaks but really love red wood.
Being a green freak like I am, there's a lot of it in our place. Our couch is sage green, area rug, accents, accessories. DH likes green too so it works.
But when it comes to general style, I like casual warm and cozy entertaining areas. DH likes modern styles that always seem so cold and formal for me.
But since we're primarily interested in colonial or victorian style homes, I'll most likely win out. And ultra-modern look will probably look silly inside a house like that.

wow! thanks for all the responses. jennie sunshine, i love the red!
our place is all white, i dont know if we can paint or not, we sign the lease on saturday. i like that one wall painted look. we tend to go for neutral colours, and dark woods. we both want a brightly coloured rug, i like green as well...
i thought it would be a feat for us to decide what we like, but it is really easy and we agree on a lot.

Thanks DH banned me from having any pink in the house so red was the next best thing
As for painting, we rent our apartment and the lease says that we're only allowed to use pastel paints (oops ) and we have to return it to the original color before we leave. Personally, I think it's worth it to paint, even if you have to paint it over before you move out - as long as you plan on staying for a little while. They say it's the cheapest way to really change the look of a room. Good luck!
