Review - Went to a wedding last night at Woodbury Country Club
I went to a wedding last night at Woodbury Country Club. I didn't know the bride, but my friend did, so I went with her.
As a guest, I would rate it an A-/B+
CH : The room was on the ground floor. I thought it was a very nice room - with all the windows going to the roof. There were three different food areas set up: an asian area (lots of different things to choose from), a mexican area, and a general area (with cheese, antipasti, veggies). We got there a little late. I just got stuff from the general area and it was good. The passed hors doerves were yummy!! Pigs in a blanket (but they weren't small, they were like hot dogs, so good). The bruschetta was delicious and sooo neat and tidy on the bread!!! My friend had a seafood cake and said it was good (I don't eat seafood). There were other passed hors doerves, but I only rated the stuff I tried or my friend tried. They got an ice sculpture (I think a heart with two doves) and it was sooo pretty, especially b/c i'm really not into ice sculptures.
The servers were very nice and attentive at both the CH and the reception.
There weren't enough seats for everyone. People were really cramped at the tables and lots of people were pulling up seats at random surfaces.
When the CH was winding down the music at another party was starting and it was really loud. It was distracting (annoying) to hear that loud room while we were in our CH. shortly afterwards we went to our room, but there was no announcement that the party would be moving. we were all standing around confused and wondering if we should be moving or not. there should have been an announcement.
Valet - We left about 25 mins before the party ended to try to avoid the valet line. There were some people waiting, which is fine. But once the valet guys brought out one of the cars they would scurry to the other side of the driveway without asking if there were any new people who needed their cars. So we were waiting about 5 minutes before any of the 4 people standing around on the other side came to ask us if we had a ticket (only b/c I was waving my arms and asking if anyone is taking a ticket - lol).
Reception : The room was sooooo pretty. The got the mix appetizer/salad combo. It was really good!!!! Tomato, mozzarella, with pancetta (i think) on mixed greens with a vinagrette. It really was delicious. The entree was okay, not bad, not good. I got the chicken and all the meals came with the mashed potatores. the potatoes were kinda dry. the chicken had an aftertaste (i think it must have been the sauce), but it was very tender.
I think that one of our servers was new b/c it sounded like he was being trained. three of us did not have knives to eat our meals with. we told him and he brought out one knife. then we said we needed two more knives and he came back 5 minutes later with two napkins instead. finally, after the rest of the table was done with their food, the remaining two of us finally got our knives. the reason i know that the chicken was so tender, besides tasting it, was that i had to eat almost half of it by cutting it with my fork. i don't think everyone had that experience and i figure he was just learning, so i give him some forgiveness.
They brought out a dessert - I think some tartuffo. It was AMAZING!!!! I'm not really into ice cream or desserts, but I ate this whole thing and it was huge. Sooooooo good. I don't know who did their cake, but it was beautiful and delicious!!!!
The dance floor was a perfect size. It was big and roomy and everyone was able to dance around comfortably, but not look like there was lots of open space.
They had a sweetheart table and the chairs were really pretty.
Entertainment / DJ : Unlimited Entertainment - B+ They were actually very good. They got the percussionist and a light show.
The percussionist gets and A+++. He was soooo good. He really was the reason that everyone was on the floor practically the whole time.
Their MC gets an A+. He did a great job - not cheesy, over-the-top, or overbearing. He had great energy and did all the typical stuff very well (entrance, cake cutting, etc), but didn't do the whole 'let's get this party started, etc stuff.
The DJ gets a B. The music was good, but there were way too many breaks and too much down time. At one point before the food came out everyone was dancing and he told the crowd that we should sit down. We all sat down thinking that the food was coming, but instead sat there for about 5-10 minutes listening to really slow music. Then he said it was time to get on the floor again. Very strange. Then when the food came out we were sitting there for another 10 minutes or so before the food even came out listening to more really slow music. There could have been at least one or two more songs before we sat down.
Also, they didn't mix the music so well in some parts - mostly the spanish music. It didn't flow well from one song to another, just cut into it.
Overall - that's why they get a B+.
Favors - A++++++ : I think she did these herself. Her favors were CDs in a metal case and she put a sticker of their monogram on the outside. On the inside the CDs were super nice. She also put a little note on the inside of each case. Very, very nice favor.
Okay - some good, some not so good, but I hope it was helpful.
