Question for brides who got or are getting married in late Sept./early Oct.
Hi, girls. I am new to this website and am recently engaged. First let me start by saying congratulations to all those married brides!!
My wedding date is September 28, 2007. I will be having my cocktail hour at 8:30pm and at 9:30 - 1:30am reception.
This is where it gets a bit tricky. I have already booked my church for 5PM. Now, as i am sitting here thinking about everything I forgot that as the days go by through summer, the days will become shorter, which means less light for pics. I believe I have read that the sunset on my wedding date will be at 6:40PM. In my mind, b/c i am having a full mass, I do not feel as I will be able to take pics after the church b/c sunset starts at 6:40 and church will probably not be done until at least 6.
My question is this, are there any women on here who have had this problem? I am sitting here debating on calling the church to schedule it for 4 instead of 5 that day. I do want to be able to go to a park (hoping for nice weather) and take pics after I am married and before the cocktail hour and before it starts to get dark. I am assuming that since a photographer includes 10 hours, i will have to go into overtime b/c the wedding is till 1:30am.
I am also concerned about my guests and if they attend the church b/c there would be a rather large time gap in between and I am wondering where these people will go during the time period of after the church and cocktail hour.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

First, Congratulations!!!
Second, I am getting Married on October 7th...I made my ceremony time at 4pm, for that exact reason...I wanted to ensure time for sunset pictures at the beach.
I am not having a full mass, but by the time the service, receiving line and short picture session are over, I figure we should be leaving the church by 5:15 - I've been assured by my photographer that is enough time to get to the beach (20 minutes from church) and get some pictures...
If you're really wanting the sunset pictures, you might want to consider moving the ceremony up even 1/2 hour...remember that if the ceremony is over at 6, you won't get out of there right away...and as for your guests, they'll manage. Out of towners can go back to their hotel for a bit, or explore the area....My cousin was married last September and her full mass ceremony was a 1pm...her cocktail hour didn't start until 6pm...my family was all in from out of town, and they all went back to the hotel where my mom had a "hospitality" room in her suite with chips/drinks/etc and they just relaxed for a bit before going to the hall...

hi! welcome! you could also consider takng pictures before the ceremony- if you feel ok about that. i know a lot of brides have started doing that, so that they can get all the pictures out of the way, and not have to worry between the ceremony and coctail hour. the photographer and videographer can set up GREAT " first time seeing each other" shots and capture everything.... that also seems like a really late coctail hour... maybe if you take pictures beforehand, you could move that up a little bit as well so people don't get too hungry waiting....

Re: Question for brides who got or are getting married in late Sept./early Oct.
Congratulations on your engagement!
I am getting married in January so I am having the same problem with daylight.
I made my church at 2:30 - they have confession at my church at 4 and I didn't want to be rushed out. Anyway, my cocktail hour doesn't start until 7:30.
I will be taking pictures at th church and at JT in between. I am figuring about an hour for travel time from Queens to LI - still giving my plenty of sunlight for some outside pictures
But the good news is that JT has a lounge that your guests can use with an open bar - and some light foods for snacking. . . so if they end up at the hall an hour early they have somewhere to go - it doesnt cost any extra. . . that was one of the reasons we loved them so much since everyone was worrying about where the guests would go in between!
i am going to see the lounge on saturday - i havent seen it yet since it was under construction when i booked
good luck!

Thanks for all your responses. I really appreciate them.
I think I will see if I can change the church to 4PM instead of 5.
Congrats to you all and thank you so much for your help....
