NWR- Does anyone know of a good puppy trainer?

I would really appreciate the info. for my little yorkie :o)

The way we train her was everytime she pee we use to put her face near it and hit little bit her coolie show her were to pee. Somebody told us to do it that. It took awhile then she learned she had to go pee outside she is such great dog she is so smart.

oh i keep telling my brother he needs one....he has a pitbull terrier that must be about a year old now...and he's just too busy to learn where to pee....he knows he's not supposed to do it after he does it, but even when he goes outside he pees all overhimself cuase he's jsut too busy to lift his leg all the way....he's watching the birds or the flowers or who knows whatelse...drives me crazy...he hates baths cause he gets so many!!!

My FMIL just got a yorkie puppy this fall and I took out a lot of books from the library and within a week of being home, we taught him how to fetch, come, etc. It took a bit of time for him to sit still and lay down, but he's learning!

As for the peeing thing, the books say that every yorkie puppy should be taken out after each meal/drink from the water bowl. This way the dog knows that after eating/drinking, he should pee/poop. If he doesn't go within 10 min, bring it back inside, then go back and do it again in 20-30 min. The dog will figure it out. Their puppy now stands by the back door when he needs out.

Also, these dogs shouldn't be taken on walks b/c they view it as a reward, and you want them to pee first, then reward it with a walk. Don't walk it until he goes to the bathroom.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it. It's a boy by the way and his name is wambi. I just don't see having the time to do it so if anyone knows of a good trainer I would appreciate it.

The best trainer is the owner. It establishes you as the "alpha" dog. So the dog knows that they aren't the boss, you are. If you're not the boss from day one, you will have problems.

All dogs should have at least a minimum amount of time invested in them regularly, and that is the most important in their younger days. Putting aside half an hour a day can save you hours of aggravation later.

Positive reinfocement is the best way to do anything with them. They really don't understand the concept of hitting being related to peeing on the carpet or something. Snacks and clickers work amazingly well. You just have to remember to wean them off it as they're mastering their training.

I didn't think we could train our beagle puppy ourselves, but we did it.

We crate her during the day while we work. As soon as we get home, we let her out. When we were starting to train her, we would bring her out every 45 minutes or so. She wouldn't always go, she started to go to the top of the stairs when she did have to.

She still wakes me up in the middle of the night to be taken out, but I prefer that to her just going in the house. If for some reason I don't wake up, she goes on a wee wee pad that we have by the back door.

Now, Maggie is just 6 months old today, and she has just started to get the hang of this all within the last month. I did a lot of research online and a lot of things I have read say that they aren't going to get the hang of being housebroken until they are about 6 months old and more importantly, if they have an accident, it is an accident and they shouldn't be screamed at. Told "NO" but it isn't malaicous.
