SWR: cupcake cake stand -UPDATED W/PIC
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about making a stand for a small (3 or 4 tier) cupcake cake?
I want to make one for my FFIL's surprise 65th bday party!

How about buying one? I think I have seen them at stores like maybe Bed Bath & Beyond? Here is a link :cupcake stand
Actually, that might not be big enough for you. You could place cake stands of different widths on top of each other.

my sister made one for my e-party and it was beautiful. She bought styrofoam discs of three different size and covered them in tin foil, and she bought the columns people use for wedding cakes and used them to stack the discs. I'll try and find a pic of it. It was so great. And she got everything at Michael's.

What you can also do is get pretty platter or glass plates of different sizes, depending on the # of tiers you want.
Then get coffee or soup types cans and cover with decorative paper.
Place the cups between the plates (you can even cover the places with doylees or decorative paper.
And decorate between the cupcakes or to hide some of the covered cans with fresh flowers too.

You can buy them at BBB for $20. They hold about 18-24 cupcakes depending on the ones you find. Maybe you could create the tiers with those or just display multiple ones.

AC Moore and Michaels have nice ones, however everyone had really good ideas and I think it would add a personal touch if you made it yourself.
