Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
We receievd the invitation to my FH's cousins wedding (which is 2 weeks before ours) She writes on the envelope:
Mr... & Guest
I think this is so rude (considering she knew my name for an invite to her bridal shower) Just needed to share b/c I was a lil annoyed.

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
this is why i am a huge advocate for NOT ever using &guest.....it's mean, hurtful and actually against etiquette rules! the thinking behind it being, if they are important enough to come to your wedding, you should take the time to find out their name(s). only TWO couples have gotten this right in over a year of wedding, shower and e-parties we've been attending!!! it's very hurtful, especially if you are engaged or in our case, engaged AND living together...in which case, your name should be on the outer enevelope!!!

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
FH's friend did this in February when he got married. I have been with FH for 2 1/2 yrs. and have known them the whole time and yet they put Mr. & Guest. I was furious. I think that is so f*cking rude!!!!! But some people are just so ignorant it's not even worth it.

I don't think it's breaking any rules of ettiquette to use "& Guest" but under the right circumstances. We used it in a few cases where we wanted to invite people with guests but they weren't seeing anyone at the time, or they had just started seeing someone.. I remember when one of FHs friends got married about 5 years ago they apologized to me for using "and guest" b/c we weren't married (or engaged). but I agree in this case it was pretty rude!!

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
we used a few and guests. but only for single guests. if guests are engaged or in a long term relationship we wrote:
mr john smith ms katie doe
i do however think its incredibly rude to write and guest when you know someone is getting married.

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
Thats rude. I don't know your actual name, is it possible she didni't know the correct spelling of your name and didn't want to misspell it. She could have tried to have found out, but you could have been one of a 100 names. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. I hope it works out.

I agree with you. We will be inviting everyone with a guest, even those who don't have serious significant others so we will address those & Guest and leave it up to the person who they want to bring.
Funny thing, FH's friends always write & Alison on all of the invites and my friends always write & Guest.

I don't think this is anything to be annoyed at. I'm sure it was not anything personal.

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
that's definitely rude especially since you're getting married 2 weeks later! she could've put "The Future Mr. and Mrs." to be nice!!!!

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
the proper way of doing it when someone is engaged is to include your name, not put "and guest"

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
That is rude - even if she didn't know your name, she should have at least written "Future Mr. and Mrs......." but really your name should be on there, you aren't just a random guest, you are getting married into the family.
People are so rude sometimes.

Re: Invite wording to future cousins' wedding drama
i had a similiar situation - where my FH was invited "& guest" - and i RAISED HELL!!
it was also a cousins party that i was invited to - and i called up my Aunt, my cousin, and anyone else i could flip out on. everyone was all apologetic about it - but i guarantee you that will NEVER happen again...
