My dress shopping experience update

Ok... sooo my dress shopping at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa.. ummm lets put it this way..They are way over priced so I will not be buying a dress there. I found a dress that I love!! I am trying to find a pic of it. Its a Jasmine. But they ask you what your budget is there which I didn't like.. so I asked to see another dress and she was like thats over your budget" so she really wouldn't even let me see other dresses. The only way I was able to find the Jasmine dress was because another girl there had it on and I LOVED it! The train on it is insane!!! sooo beautiful!! I looked like a little princess in it! It's not a pull up either like I wanted! Its soo different from the Carle Place Bridal Refelections.. you can't even see any dresses there unless they take u downstairs in the basement.. so weird!! Its a little to expensive for me! I asked to see dresses 2,000.00 and under! And I only said 2,000.00 cause I got the feeling they wouldn't show me anything unless I put that down!! So I will most likely be buying my dress from The Bridal Suite in Centereach! They are a LOT cheaper! I asked to see a Maggie dress that I tried on once before that was a pull up and she told me Maggie doesn't make them.. well I know she does cause I tried one on before and a girl on here bought one.. but at the bridal suite in centereach it was 700.00 so that's why they don't have it cause it's under 1,000.00!! I was a little upset about that. For example.. A dress that Dayna (sugarkube4) had tried on somewhere else was about 400.00 more there. And a dress I tried on at The Bridal Suite in Centereach was about 450.00 more there as well. So That was my experience. They have gorgeous dresses there but I just feel like I can do better somewhere else.

Well its good you got the experience of trying on different things but unfortantley it wasn't such a pleasant place to deal with.
Its good you know what you want and where you want to buy it. If you find the pic online defintley post!

Re: My dress shopping experience update

Def post a pic when you can.

I got my dress at BR in Mass... But I only went to that store and didnt look around so I didnt know they were overpriced. My mom used to work nearby and always wanted to go there once I got engaged, so that's why we went. We also werent planning on finding THE DRESS on the first day of looking...

Its good that you know what you want. that'll make this so much easier!!

Re: My dress shopping experience update

Ah Chrissy, sorry your experience wasnt great. Now you know what you are looking for and where to go. I do think its a waste to go to BR if you do not plan on spending alot of money. I believe that is why they ask the budget. They dont want to waste ur time or theirs. I think of them as the klienfield of LI.

Thanks hun.. I met with Amy there a couple of months ago she was such a doll!! I liked all the girls that worked there! Such nice down to earth people. And once I showed them 2 dresses I liked.. they just kept bringing me more dresses into the fitting room that they thought I would like. They were really easy to work with.

Give Lillettes a try too. I didn't end up getting a dress from there, but I thought the service was good. It's in Baldwin I think.

Re: My dress shopping experience update

I have never been to BR but I think it is very rude for them too ask you your budget not so they can help you stay within it, but so they can snub you if you ask to see something outside of it

Re: My dress shopping experience update

you know i've been very skeptical about going to Bridal Reflections for the same reasons you mentioned in your post!
I had called the other day and said that my budget was $2000 and although the woman was nice, she said that my best bet would be to go to the B. reflections in Massapequa...
Maybe i should just avoid the place!

Re: My dress shopping experience update

I've been to A LOT of gown places so far and I think the majority of places did ask my budget. I think they have to ask your budget.. if you are planning on spending $500 or $10,000 they need to know what you can afford... if they don't have gowns in there in your price range, then it would be a waste of time for both you and the store.

I don't think any person though should give an attitude or not let you try on a gown because it isn't in your stated budget. That is definitely uncalled for. It annoys me when you give your budget.. they tend to stay in the top range of the budget & not show you cheaper ones. But i guess they are trying to make a living just like the rest of us. But be prepared to give a budget to most places.

Re: My dress shopping experience update

I got my gown at Bridal reflections in massapeua and thought the service was great. I shopped around everywhere and found the prices very competitve i also would pay $100 to $200 more for a gown from a place that is well known so I know the day of my wedding the place will still be there. I know many people think salons that are asking for your budget are being rude but in fact they are saving you alot of stress. Why fall in love with a gown that is $3000 if your budget is $1500. The staff at bridal reflections has been so helpful so far. I find that they are the only salon that tells you the designers. My friend bought her gown at center Reach last year and it was a complete nightmare. The gown came in Ivory and she ordered diamond white the owners said they would return it and it wouldnt be a problem well 3 weeks before the wedding the b never heard from them so she called and they said they LM on her machine that they were very sorry but they couldnt get the white in time . Just be careful where you buy. Give the store a fair chance over all sometimes you just dont click with a bridal consultant and you should call the store and ask to work with someone else. Always check how long the store has been in business, make sure they take credit cards, what is their alteration policy, and they have an account with the designer. I have alot of experience in the bridal world if you need any help please let me know.

I had the exact same experience as you did -

also, when you tell them your budget is $2k - all they did was bring me out dresses that were at the top of my budget.

Im glad you found a dress you love!

Re: My dress shopping experience update

I got my dress at Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. Its a Jasmine, and they have a huge selection of Jasmine dresses there!!
All the places ask what your budget is because if you can't spend more then 2K and they show you a 6K dress that you fall in love with, they don't want your heart to be broken because you can't afford the dress.
