local info for oot guests help please
i want to put together some local information for our oot guests. so far i have info on traveling into the city and getting to/from airports. i don't know what else to include in terms of things to do b/c i haven't lived on the island in years.
guests will be staying at: Four Points Sheraton
Plainview, NY
any suggestions on what they can do? restaurants, sites of interest?

How much free time are you expecting your OOT guests to have?
I went to a wedding this year where I stayed across the street at the Homewood Suites (even though my parents aren't too far away).
It's tough since there's nothing right there per se but, there's a lot of things that aren't too far. There are some cute restaurants/bars downtown Farmingdale that aren't that far and the Walt Whitman Mall isn't too far either. Bethpage and Syosset are also not that far.

some will just be in for the weekend. but some might be there for the week since they are coming from overseas & might make a vacation of it.

i don't really know about points of interest, but some restaurants around there that FI and I like:
Majors Steakhouse in Woodbury
Mims in Syosset
Nagashima in Jericho and Higashi in Syosset-best sushi!!!
None are more than about 3-5 miles away. HTH!

Adventureland on 110 if they have little kids.
Jones Beach or Sunken Forest park, if its a warm weekend. Or Eisenhower park.
Old Bethpage village restoration.
Walt Whitman or Roosevelt Field mall.
In terms of restaurants, there a place called Greenfield's on 110 in Farmingdale, it'sa brazilian grill and serves all you can eat bbq meat. It's great for guys.

Go to www.licvb.com. It's the Convention and Visitor's Bureau. They can send you LI Travel Guides for out of town people. I ordered one for each of my OOT guests.

Also your hotel should provide some info, I got a packet from the Islandia Marriott with this sort of stuff.
