Bridal shower thank-yous?

How long do you have after your shower to send the guests thank you cards? What's an acceptable time frame? Thank you!

i would do it right away, the longer you put it off, the worse it is.

I would say 2-3 months the most
I sent mine out the very next day :):)

Thank you for the responses. When I write them out, should I personalize the thank you such as "Thank you for the can-opener" or is it best to keep it general, as in "Thank you for coming and for your generous gift?" TIA!!

I would make it personal. I wouldn't wait more than 1 month to send them out.

I think you should personalize the shower thank you. Its the only time you can. You can't personalize the wedding one that much, that one is usually a general thank you.

I would say 1 month, unless your shower is two weeks before you wedding.

i started writing mine the week after so i could still remember them (and the gift) at the shower and could personalize it without too much effort. Even with a list of items like "toaster", I'll never remember what was cool about it if I put it off for too long.

Plus, you should do them sooner before you're stuck writing those AND the wedding thank yous!

I sent mine out right away. Besides, my shower was 5 weeks before my wedding. I also personalized each thank you

Thanks very much. My shower was March 12. I sent a few personalized thank you's out already (like 5 or so out of 40). Thanks for the help and advice.

The basic structure of a thank you is as follows:

1. Greeting
2. Thank you specific
3. Personal note
4. Closing

If people gave you an actual gift then you should mention in your note. If you received cash then you can make some vague reference to what it might be used for. Below are some samples.

Dear Cousins

Thank you for the lovely wine goblets. I am sure we will but them to good use “soon”. (Right after David and I have some free moments to clean the apartment, put them away, buy some wine and make a good dinner – so in about 10 weeks). David and his parents are wine lovers, so they will get lots of use. I’m sure they’ll make our first dinner party at Mrs. and Mrs. Smith all the more elegant. We look forward to seeing you again soon.


Dear Cousins
I was absolutely thrilled by the double gift of the electric wok and measuring cups. I am also certain that David will be trilled when I use them to make a “fabulous” dinner in 20 minuets. It was also a treat to see you both. We certainly hope that you come to New York soon. I want to show you where to get the best bread pudding, the best chocolate cheese cake, the best molten chocolate cake …I should stop, I am getting too hungry. See you soon (less than seven weeks).

Thank you so much for the cake stand. As David and I both love cake we will use it often. Hopefully my cakes will be tasty enough to put on such a lovely serving piece. It was wonderful to see you at the shower. I am glad to hear that Donna is doing well. Please let me know at the wedding if she enjoyed her trip to Alaska. See you again soon

Dear Office Co-worker from other city
Please share our gratitude with everyone in the office for the silver chest. It is a most handsome addition to our home. We look forward to family holidays where we can take it out and show it to our parents and friends. David and I are both certain it will generate many compliments. Though you were missed at the wedding and reception David and I were glad that your thoughts were with us on our special day. Thank you for your generous wedding gift! We plan on putting our wedding gifts into a home fund so we can move into a large apartment in the next few years. David and I were so delighted that you could make it to the wedding; we both felt that having our families there was one of the most important aspects of the day. I hope that you enjoyed yourself during the wedding. We look forward to seeing you at thanksgiving -- and hope to have some professional pictures by then to show everyone.

I did it right away...they got the thank-you's about two/three weeks after the shower.

It's better to do them ASAP, or you'll just never get to it.
