I had to the same thing with my old make up person. I had her booked but then liked someone else and booked them instead. I was praying for voicemail when I called to cancel and I got it! I left her a quick message that I had to cancel because of unforeseen circumstances. Good luck!

Yell at you?????? You are giving her 4 months notice---which is PLENTY of time! And if you hate confrontation, and she "yells" like this  , all you have to do is one simple thing......HANG UP! Your call is done!
 
EXACTLY! That's the approach I would take. But I also like the idea about saying you won the servies from a bridal contest  That's great!! I love it!

I cancelled my make-up girl. It took me a few weeks to do it because I was so scared how she'd take it after the trial. I basically told her I can't handle someone doing stuff on their own time frame and I wanted to do it myself.

Take your cell phone and your desk phone and from both phones at the SAME time (so both calls come in at once), dial the # with *67 in the front so she can't see it's you.
The phone can't take 2 calls at once, so one will go to voicemail. Let her say "hello, hello, hello" on the other line while you smoothly cancel on the other ;) LOL
Woah, I never heard of that! Seriously though, these are vendors here to do us a service. If you don't want to use her, then just call and be polite while you cancel her. If she starts to be mean, you can either hang up, or call upon your inner b!tch (we all have one, ladies) and let her have it.
Yeah - really !! Come on now...Weddings are a lot of stres and a TON of expense! America - free country and all of that. You call, you cancel - it's done. End - done. She doesn't like it - too bad. You're giving a lot of notice - she'll re-book it - no harm here. Don't put it off, do it now!!

Just the fact you are afraid she is going to yell at you.. makes me think that you really need to get rid of her.
Just tell you are cancelling dont' give her a reason.. its none of her business anyway..

Just call and cancel. You have to be happy with the final product on that day. You could always do it to an answering machine when they are closed!
