---- Official Irish Bride Thread ----
I figured, I would start an "Official Thread" too!! Fitting for St. Patrick's Day!
I'm 100% Irish, born in Ireland as well as my siblings and parents and moved to NY when I was 5 years old. I'm marrying an Irish American who is very in tune with his Irish roots.
We're having a wedding with about 300 ppl. and 90% of it will be Irish people even a good amount coming from the old country.
We're having Celtic Cross at our wedding, I'm sure as many of you know - they are a very well known Irish band.
As far as Irish traditions, I plan on having the penny in my shoe and a lot of Irish music to dance the night away to. I'm sure we'll incorporate our Irish culture and traditions more and more as we go ahead with our planning.
What are your plans?

I have a mostly Irish backgroud although most of my relatives have been in the US for several generations. I will admit I was an Irish Step dancer in elementary school although I don't remember much now!! I would love to hear of other Irish traditions. And by the way... where in your shoe do you put the penny? Isn't it uncomfortable??

I am 50% Irish. I really wanted to tie in my heritage in some way because I am sad to be losing my Irish name 
I decided to have a celtic love knot as my cake topper and Iam having my uncle give an Irish prayer at the reception. Now that I think about it, I really wish I would have hired people to play the bag pipes at the church...

I was an Irish bride. Hope that counts. My Father is retired from the NYPD so we had the Emerald Society pipers at the reception. It was so cool! Our unity candle had a claddagh on it too, with the Irish blessing.
Oh and my cake topper was a red headed bride...like me!

I also did years of Irish dancing, even though I don't remember much now. I love the Siege of Ennis - definitely doing this ceili at my wedding.
A lucky sixpence in a bride's shoe is a famous old good luck wedding tradition. The sixpence should be placed in the brides own shoe or slipper on her wedding day, as a symbol of love, happiness and Good Luck.
My sister did it, she felt it at first but said she forgot about it after awhile.

I'm sad about losing my Irish last name too. I am about 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Italian and am trying to find ways to incorporate the cultures. I lived in Ireland for 6 months in college - best time of my life!!! Looking forward to hearing what the Irish girls are doing!

I also plan on doing Irish prayer cards, claddagh unity candle and having a claddagh on our invitations, programs and menus.

I am an Irish bride to - both my parents were born there and my FH is from Ireland. We willl be having lots of people from Ireland at the wedding.
We are having an irish band, we definately will be doing the siege of ennis
our ring pillow has the claddagh on it and i am hoping to find a unity candle with the claddagh.
During the wedding ceremony we will have the irish wedding song sung. As in irish tradition we are going to give our moms flowers at the reception.
I don't know what other things we will incorporate

I never heard of the presentation of flowers to both mothers - when do you do it? During the ceremony or reception?
I never saved the webpage that I found the prayer cards on so I've decided to just reprint them myself on card stock.

I am Irish, but my FI is not. So, he doesn't want anything like irish invitations or anything that should be about both of us. So, I am getting a celtic knot tiara and will probably try to find some other little things to incorporate into the wedding.

Love this thread! I'm an Irish bride too. Born and raised in Ireland-came here when I was 8. My FI is not Irish but he does love Guinness.  I'm trying to incorporate some Irish details in my wedding too. I'm doing the six pence in the shoe and I'm having a horseshoe sewn onto to my bouquet for good luck. Of course, there will be Irish music at the reception as well, but that's it for now. Trying to think of more ideas too!

i'm italian but fh is part irish we are having the irish wedding song sung/played during the candle lighting ceremony.. b/c i want to have something irish in the wedding... any other ideas..

Great thread.
I'm a 100% Irish, father was born here, but his mother was born there, my mom was born there. Have visited too many times to count and been to Ireland for a semester during college.
FH is 50% Irish, but unfortunetly not his father's side, so there goes my Irish name
We will have my friends husband play the bagpipes outside the church and him and my father will probably play a few at the reception. During a DJ break. My cousin will also play the accordian at one point and my cousin, my sister and myself, will all attempt to do Irish dancing in our dresses. I danced from when I was 4-17, my cousin is still doing it, and my sister also is still doing it.
I will have the horseshoe sewn into my bo-k. My cousin already bought me my claddagh unity candle that is mullingar pewter. My coworkers got me waterford toasting flutes. I also have to make the DJ some irish music cd's to make sure it is all covered especially the siege of ennis.
