RP: GREAT tip for hotel room blocking!
I read this in a budget wedding book and it actually worked.
If you are looking to get some competitive quotes from hotels around your RH, contact the Long Island Visitors bureau. www.discoverlongisland.com
Tell them you are planning a wedding and looking for __ # of rooms in a certain area. They will send back a more detailed list of info they need from you.
What they then do is send out a fax to hotels in the area you are looking for and get the hotels to almost bid on quotes for you. I received about 4 emails and 2 faxes from hotels. I really wanted a particular hotel to begin with and kind of used the rates I got from other hotels as leverage to get them to reduce the rate a bit.
Worked like a charm! And takes away the hassle of calling a bunch of hotels at once!

awesome...that is great....that is my next plan of action since my out of towners want to know what hotels they are staying out....plus my father is paying for my side of the family's hotel rooms since they are mostly in the west coast...thanks for the tip...I will definitely try it
