Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....Full Of $hit!!!! UPDATE!

Ok, so my stp mom went to the church so that she can book the time and date and confirm everything in person.
In the Greek churches you have to be registered to a church in order top preform any kind of sacriment. So anyway i just recently baptised a lil girl so I am registered in a difference church for this year... they told my step-mom that they will book the date but if a "memeber" of the church goes to register any event for that day they will buimp me unless i pay $300 to register for 2006 and 600 for me and my FI for 2007. mindyou for 2006 we are both registered in differnt churches. this church is the richest of the Greek churches in the US..now i know why, they rip people off. My dad flipped out he wants to take this to the head of the church and make a fomal complaint cuz this isn't right.
sorry girls i know this was long but i was so mad when i found out that i just had to vent some more! GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

UPDATE!!!!
Well, i found out A LOT yesterday. First of all i called 4 other churches in my neighboring areas and they all told me that what is being asked of me is obserd. If I am already a member then it shoud be respected, so my churchbasically just wants to take advantage of poeple.
Then I found out that in the written rules of the Greek Archdiocese it is listed that no parish is allowed to deny services to a person who is a registered memeber of any chuech listed in the Archdiocese. Basically when I have to do today is call my church and tell the the scoop. If they want to change theri rules then fine iw ill still use their church, if not then they will be reported and my whole family will dro membership from there!!! lets see what happens.

My baptism, communion and confirmation all were done at the church I am getting married in and I am paying more then that for my day. they wont bump me but fees for the church come out to be a big amount.

I think all churches have higher fees for outside parishioners

ETA: Churches keep themselves up to par with the donations made to them-they are performing a service and like any other vendor you are charged

Re: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....Full Of $hit!!!!

It's the sad truth.........seems like all the church's are a little more interested in the $$$$. My church where I made all of my scarements stands alone and empty, someone decided that our parish needed a much larger 5 million dollar church. P.S. by the way the new one is right next to the old. Now, it costs way more to get married there.

this same thing happened to a friend of mine who recently got married in a church in Astoria.
I'm sorry this is happening. IMO, it's a shady practice.

You are absolutley right, and i think that they should collect just like anyone else...However the issue here is that I am already a registered member of the Archdiocese and they are trying to make me re-register for the same year. Its against our rules, but they dont care. Even the other churches i called said that it was crazy what they were asking.

I think I know what church you are talking about and they did it to me, my cousin, and my sister in law. I am curious to see if you get anywhere because I heard that when you call the archdiocese they tell you that they can't do anything that each church makes their own rules!!! Let me know. I think the policy stinks. I can understand them wanting the $$$ for the year you are getting married, fine they are performing a service, but the year before too? If it makes you feel any better, a friend of mine who is Catholic says she has to pay $600--just for the year!
