Time between church and reception

How much time are you allowing between the church and the reception. Our guest list is 322 but will hopefully be less the day of and FH's parents want us to take pictures with almost every family at the church so I'm not sure how much time I should allow. Cocktail hour begins at 630pm and the church is only 15 min away. The ceremony should be just under 1 hour.

Re: Time between church and reception

I don't have nearly as many guests as you. My ceremony is 30 minutes. That starts at 2:30 and my CH starts at 6:30. Pics with every family member is a bit much. Maybe you can split the pics. Some inbetween church and CH and some at the reception. Just a thought.

Re: Time between church and reception

My church is at 4pm and the cocktail hour is at 7. The ceremony should be about 30 mins and it takes about 30 mins to get to the reception hall so it should give us just enough time to take pictures before the CH starts.
We are getting married on a Friday and we are having about 225 quests, but we dont plan on having a big crowd at the church because it is on a friday and people are still working.

Re: Time between church and reception

You may want to think about taking some pictures with family or even FH before hand so you don't have to give up your cocktail hour or have such an extensive time gap.

Re: Time between church and reception

ceremony at 11 (no mass) and cocktail hr is at 1pm. church is 45 min from reception. i have limited amount of time. but i really don't want fh to see me before the ceremony. its very important to me. so my photographer ensures me he will take me with fam and me with bp before ceremony and then after church all of us. I will miss most of my ch but its worth it for me for us not to see eachother before the ceremony.

Re: Time between church and reception

I think the current time frame is Chruch @ 2:30 (I originally was doing 3pm, but someone told me its better luck to get married on the upswing of the clock instead of the downswing) and then our CH is at 6:30.

Re: Time between church and reception

I think if it's a Saturday in a RC church, you don't have much choice in the ceremony time, 3pm seems to be the latest.

2 Questions: Is anyone having a Sat. afternoon wedding around 4 pm in a RC church ? (Western Suffolk area)

AND - what will your guests do during the time in between? Some don't live close enough to go home, but they're not really OOT so no hotel to go to! Is my Mom supposed to invite them to our house? She will not be happy to add this to her to-do list!
