Getting ready before wedding?

Is it ok to get ready before your wedding at a hotel or one of your bridesmaid's house? My house is severely small, I have nothing against it, but I was just thinking it might be better to get ready somewhere with a little more space to accomodate hairdresser, makeup person, photographer, bridesmaids, etc. Anyway, so when I told my mom this idea she got soooooo emotional and was insulted at even at the THOUGHT of that we wouldn't get ready at my house. Do you really have to get ready at the house, I didn't know that it was such a big deal. Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Re: Getting ready before wedding?

I think years from now, you might look back and wish you had gotten ready at your mom's house. I know we have the option of getting ready at our reception site or the hotel, but for sentimental reasons, I want to get ready in the house where I grew up. I want to forever see that special moment with me in the wedding dress in my house, looking in the mirror I always looked in before I left my parents' house, being in my childhood room - all captured on film and in photos. I guess it's a personal preference, but for sentimental reasons, I'm going with my parents' house.

True I totally understand that. I do think it is a good idea. In the end we decided to have it at the house, but my mom has been severely annoying lately, I just needed to vent for a minute :)

I am debating on whether or not to stay at the Inn at FH the night before and get ready there or stay at our home and get ready there. (Staying at the Inn will save me about an hour travel time.) Either way I am going to wake up on my wedding day next to my fiance, and not in my mother's house (nor will I get ready there - even though it's huge.) I have created a beautiful home with my fiance, so I would want to take my photos there because my mother's house is not my home anymore

My mother reacted the same way as yours did. She is also upset that I am not spending the night away from my fiance. She is even more upset that I am not spending the night at her house before the wedding.

To answer your question: you don't have to do anything. Weddings are about traditions, yes, but they are also special times that you can create new traditions and customs that suit you and/or your fiance. If it's more practical for you to get ready in a spacious hotel suite, and you'd be more comfortable there - then do it!

ETA: Oops, I didn't see that you already made your decision.

Re: Getting ready before wedding?

Yeah that's ok :) I'm getting married at the FH too, so the Inn was definitely an option. My mom, overall, has been pretty good about stuff. So if that makes her happy, and it's one less thing to fight about, then I figured it would be best just to leave it the way it is for now :) thanks for your advice though!
