How much time are you ladies take off from work before the wedding, plus I need a little advice?

I'm taking off the full week before. I'm flying in from GA, so I know I'll have a lot of last minute things to do. When I started my new job last August, I told my boss that I was getting married in April. No prob....I reminded him a few months ago, sent an email about it and everything. I also asked him how many days I could take, he said.."take as many as you need." I'm the only Dr. in the office, plus my assistant, so when I take days off, I understand he needs to have a fill in for me. But, Saturday, he tells me that he's not going to be able to pay me any vacation time. There's no contract b/t me and him, therefore nothing explicitly explained as far as vaca, etc. I've been with co. over six months though, so I guess I did expect to get paid for atleast 1 week while I'm gone, definitely not both weeks. I wouldn't have taken so much time before the wedding to come home. I would've worked more days!!! I just feel like I'm kinda getting screwed, and I completely hate approaching the subject of money. I suck at confrontation, but I have to say something to him, right!

Just wondering what you guys are doing as far as your days off before?

The weekend is on Sunday and I am taking off the Friday before. I only have two weeks vacation, which I am using up for the HM. Luckily the day after the wedding is memorial day so the office is closed anyway, so the friday before will be a regular vacation day. I can't afford to take any time off without pay.

I originally took just the Thursday & Friday off for our Sunday wedding, but just last week decided to take the entire week before and after the wedding. I'm entitled to four weeks of paid vacation, two of which have to be taken together. That being said, the week before and after the wedding are my two weeks back to back, and we're going to our HM in November/December, where I'll be taking the other week off.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about your work environment as far as paid vacations and personal days. I work in a corporate environment, so everything is basically laid out for you as far as paid/unpaid, vacation/personal/sick.

I would honestly sit down and ask questions:
1) How many paid vacation days am I entitled to?
2) How many paid personal days am I entitled to?etc....

I have more vacation time then I know what to do with. I'm taking the entire month of October off, and part of November.

I own my own business, so unfortunately I have to play it by ear. I am getting married on a Friday so I am hoping to have off Wednesday and Thursday but you never know. Somehow whenever I go on vacation I always wind up working until the very last minute and I don't think my wedding will be any different

Friday is my last day....and then i'm off for a full week before and two weeks after.....can't wait!

Our wedding is on Friday & I am taking the Wed & Thursday before the wedding...We don't leave for our HM til the Thursday after the wedding but I am not returning to work til the Monday after we get back!

So my vacation is March 29-April 17

I'm taking off the day before and then 11 days after. Luckily we get the 4 day weekend for Thanksgiving the week before so I can get a lot done then.

I would definitely sit down with them and ask about your vacation time. Maybe they will pay you for part of your time off.

ETA: I get about 5 weeks off per year and I carried over a couple of days from last year. We usually spend some time in Myrtle Beach and at the Jersey Shore so I want to try to take off as little time the week before as possible so I can do all of my trips.

my wedding is on a sunday, so I am planning to take the friday before (maybe thursday as well, haven't decided yet).. and 2 weeks afterwards for our honeymoon

I'm only taking the Thurs and Fri before off.... after the wedding, I have two weeks and a day off work b/c our honeymoon is 13 days. I wish I could have taken off more time prior, but I don't have the days to take.

I'm taking the Thursday and Friday before my Sunday wedding. I'll be out from April 27th - May 9th about 2 weeks total.

I forgot to answer your question. Since this an issue that you really didn't discuss prior to your employment, I suggest that you have a discussion with your boss and ask him to tell you exactly how many personal/vacation/sick days you have and if at all possible to put it in writing so as that both of you are protected. Honestly I'm not exactly sure if you would be entitled to get paid for your vacation since you haven't been working there at least a year which is when vacation is usually given. But of course I'm not familiar with the medical profession.

May 12th is a friday. I'm taking from that wednesday the 10th all through memorial day weekend. i don't come back to work till tuesday, may 30th

I am taking off Friday and Monday. My wedding is on a Sunday. I don't leave for my honeymoon until a week after the wedding. I will be away for 2 weeks.

I'm getting married on a Sunday. I'm working until the Thursday before my wedding because I'm hoping to take off the two weeks AFTER my wedding. I don't think it's right for him to tell you at the last minute you're not getting paid but I guess without a contract, you really can't fight it too much. Have you tried talking to him about paying you at least for the first week?

Im a teacher so I have off two weeks before the big day
