NWR: Don't ya wish NY real estate was like this?

So my best friend from college has now officially moved into his new home. He bought a 4 bedroom, (optional 5 BR if he changes the den), 2 1/2 bath house in south carolina for $92,000. you know how much he had to bring to the closing? $500!!!!! that was it!! nothing more!! his mortgage will be an astounding $700 or so a month! he was b*tching to me about his $76 electric bill (btw--he has central a/c & heat). i told him to put a sock in it and be happy he doesn't live in NY!

i'm soooooo happy for him, BUT man i wish i could find a deal like that here in long island!!!

Yes it is very tempting when you see those kind of prices. I don't think I could ever leave my family though.

Welllll.....I did find something for $79k in Port Washington.....A one bedroom House boat.

It kills me, so many of my friends own brand new houses around the country and I think the most one paid was $186k.

I lived in NC for many years. I had to move close to NYC.

I was born near a big city so it does not matter what size city they have in the South... it's not NYC and all it has to offer.

People here are spoiled with the beach. Most people in the US go to vacation near a beach. We don't even think about it here. It's taken for granted.

Of course, all this convenience comes at a price.

I bought my own house in NC for $115,000.00. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, 2 car garage, all brick house on 1/2 acre. You can get a brand new apartment (with fireplace) for $700-800 a month. Of course, there is a brand new pool with gym.

But again... it's not NYC... It's a different lifestyle. Personally, I was too "bored".

One of FH's friends bought a house in NC a few years ago for $42,000 and it was gorgeous! They sold it a couple of years ago and now live in SC but it was a beautiful house in a newly built community.

WOW... wonder where the $42,000.00 house was? It's cheap but not that cheap next to a small size city.
