Nosy friend
I have a very nosy friend, who is also getting married, who constantly asks me what things are costing! I don't know what to say to her. I don't want to be rude but I also don't want to disclose what things are costing for my wedding. Anyone have some good little sayings that I can use to get her to stop?!?!

Re: Nosy friend
Well, if she's doing it so she'll know what to expect when going for the same thing I'd say somehitng like "It's 10% of my wedding budget" but if you think she's saying it more to be catty like, I have more money than you, then I'm pretty direct so I'd probably just say I'm not comfortable discussing money with you.

Is she getting married in Long Island? If not, just tell her it's far more expensive than you thought and you are not interested in discussing it.
If she is getting married in Long Island (with a reception at a typical catering hall), I agree with the above poster that she may be asking just to compare notes to see who is getting better deals/paying more for similar services In which case, I'd tell her (assuming she is a good friend) that you would rather not compare notes until AFTER since you are comfortable with your vendor choices and budget - and then either you will tell her later or not at all.

Re: Nosy friend
If she is getting married on Li she should come on here so she can get vendor quotes and ask other girls how much things are

Re: Nosy friend
She's not getting married on LI and I don't get the feeling that she's asking to see if she's getting a good deal. We have a unique friendship and although we're good friends, things sometimes get competitive. I get the sense that she's asking to compare what I'm having at my wedding to what she's having at hers.

Re: Nosy friend
In that case I would definitely tell her you don't feel comfortable discussing $$ with her

I would tell her to leave you alone about it and you don't want to discuss it with her. Any friend would understand.

Re: Nosy friend
Just tell her you are spending so much that you are at the thought. That should be enough to satisfy her nosiness!

Re: Nosy friend
I am not meaning this in a rude way, butI never understood why people have a problem telling others what they are paying for certain things if they genuinely are asking for a purpose. Your friend is getting married, and is asking about what yours costs, so she is aware of what things for weddings cost. Help her out. Why not tell her? JMHO.

Re: Nosy friend
The way I answer (people that are just trying to figure out how much we're spending) is, I tell them 10% of our budget.... Or for other items "more than we had intended on but it's worth it...
People are weird about money, Anytime we buy somthing new, everyone wants to know what it cost.... We just smile w/o giving a # & say it was worth it

I have a friend that is also getting married, but when she and I talk, we use estimates instead of the actual figures.

Re: Nosy friend
Whenever anyone asks me that question I look them straight in the eye and say, "Trust me, enough." They can take it how they want. If they go further and ask again I just say I have it all written down in my private planner at home and I can get back to them later. They usually forget or realize it is an intrusive question.

Re: Nosy friend
Maybe she just is lookng for someone to give her a point of reference regarding how much she should spend? When I was looking at photographers, I was asking peolpe I knew how much they spent so I can see around what price I should be spending... I mean, when I began this - I had no clue to what was a decent price!!!
