PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
Hi everyone!!
I have a question for anyone who has done or is doing Pre Cana...
Long story really really short - I'm Catholic, FI is Methodist and we are getting married in my church which requires Pre Cana. The Pre Cana program at my church is super intense. They told me that I can probably find another parish that does Pre Cana differently... like less days.
I wanted to know if any of you girls have/had a Pre Cana program that was for one full day only - or two or three days max. FI isn't really down for the whole Pre Cana and I wanted to make it as quick as possible.
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
My priest told me that the new requirements were two full days. I would like to know if it is different at other churches.

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
I have the Brooklyn Diocese pre-cana schedule for 2006 and it has changed since last year. You now have to go on a Friday evening and then all day on Saturday. I live in Queens so this won't be helpful to LI girls but in case you want to check it out:

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
The Diocese of Rockville Centre offers weekend retreat options... you can do Friday evening and an all Saturday. The schedule and information was on their website if you need more information. Also, individual parishes usually do it differently (no weekend retreats) but rather a weekly meeting (about 2 hours in length) for six nights. (so it would take about a month and a half....)
And contrary to what some have posted... and anyone please don't take offense, but this is just my opinion... I think a weekend to spiritually connect with your fiance and to truly take the time to understand what the Sacrament of Marriage truly means in the eyes of the Church and to take time to talk about important issues that you will encounter in your marriage is not a waste of time or the Church being difficult. It is about helping you discern important facets of your relationship you may not have thought about or explored yet that may help actually help you in the long run.....

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
I understand that.... but I believe that my FI and I can spiritually connect without guidance - especially when we are of different faiths - different churches.
I don't like the fact that it is mandatory for anyone who wants to get married in the Catholic church - espcially couples who are interfaith.
That's just my opinion - NO OFFENSE ANYONE!

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
The Archdiocese of NY has two day programs as well (they aren't two consecutive days though) www.archny.org.
My FH and I went last year, we were looking into scheduling it for this year and there was one the upcoming weekend (the last one day one) so we went.
The only thing that I would consider to be "Catholic" mainly was the mass at the end. They pretty much gave you a workbook with questions to answer about each other and yourselves. I found it to be better than I was expecting going into it.
ETA: A lot of other religions make you attend something similar, a pre-marital counselling session.

Re: PRE CANA QUESTION - Repost from BHB
My church requires a two hour weekly meeting for 6 weeks. This is in addition to the FOCCUS, which you have to do first.
