Smoking Related Deaths Are 100% Preventable! Spread awareness and save lives!!
I felt compelled to write something after reading through the thread of “Dana Reeve Has Passed Away.” There were a few posts about second hand smoke and the effects. Many smokers honestly do NOT realize that when they smoke they are harming their loved ones around them. This story hits close to home because my dads girlfriend had a laryngectomy a few years back. For those who do not know what that is, she has a whole in her throat and can not speak. She NEVER smoked but both of her parents did and then worked in an office for years where everyone smoked. Second hand smoke caused her cancer. Please dont let your children be around those who are smoking!
Also, my FI’s grandfather (who was a smoker) also had a laryngectomy. Now he goes around to local schools to raise awareness.
More and more people are having this procedure done as result of getting cancer from smoking. Years ago we didn’t have these options and people died rather suddenly. Luckily now our lives can be “saved” however it is such a hard existence. What bothers me most is that its 100% PREVENTABLE!
Okay that’s all for now.
Jus
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has lost someone due to smoking related illnesses.

i support you. my grandpa died in december of lung cancer and i posted a similar public service announcement. i have a lot of anger towards smoking because of the damage it does to everyone, not just the smoker

Thank you Justine -
My dad was a smoker and had a near fatal heart attack when he was 37!
He still has health problems from his heart - thank you for posting - things hit us that we have no control over - why do something we KNOW can kill us????

Thank you for posting this. I am not sure why people still smoke. It's like a "slow suicide" where all your family see you die. AS WELL AS THEM! I learned recently myself the risk of second hand smoke (where they started those ads on TV).
Both my grand-fathers died due to smoking. Mom's dad died at 66 of lung cancer. Dad's dad died at 70 of a stroke directly linked to cancer (he smoked cigarettes with no filters!).

Re: Smoking Related Deaths Are 100% Preventable! Spread awareness and save lives!!
Justine, thank you so much for writing. BOTH of my parents smoke. My brothers and I have been trying to get them to quit for years! Looks like we have lost the battle with the arguement though. I live at home until the wedding and I have VERY serious asthma. I take the highest dosage of medication that can be offered on a daily basis. So, for me, hearing about lung cancer is a very scary reality for me.

I couldn't have said it better! It never ceases to amaze me how people continue to smoke with all the horrible health hazards of it. Anything else so deadly would be illegal, I really believe the only reason cigarettes aren't illegal is that they're too widespread and people would flip out.
Kudos to anybody who is trying to quit, I so respect that, you are so doing the right thing for yourself!

Re: Smoking Related Deaths Are 100% Preventable! Spread awareness and save lives!!
Thanks for posting this message. The first step is awareness!!! I would encourage all of you who are still trying to quit smoking to do so!!! I realize it may be difficult, but YOU CAN DO IT. I was a casual smoker in college, but have not had a cigarette in years.

Re: Smoking Related Deaths Are 100% Preventable! Spread awareness and save lives!!
I have been smoke free for 2 months and five days.!! I feel great, saved $480 so far, and I know I am doing the best thing ever in my life. I lost my father to cancer (heavy smoker) and I do not want to die at a young age as he did and not see my children grow up.
