Band or DJ?!?!?!?
My FH and I are debating over DJ or Band. I think DJ its easier more versitile..which we need he is italian and I am greek and a lot less money.
He says Band, b/c......thats all.
Any suggestions.....or even band recommendations. It would be great, I have never been to a wedding with a band and don't know where to begin to find a GREAT one.
PLEASE HELP!!! I am willing to do a band but only if its a good one!!
Please help me in how to find a BAND!!!!!

We are doing a band- Franklin Wayne band- Vision and my sister is using Heart and Soul by the same company- We wanted a band because my FH is a serious musician and he plays a lot of instruments and a lot of his friends are musicians and like live music. I enjoy bands more too but they also cost a lot more than a DJ and some people prefer DJ's- it is a matter of personal taste-
Maybe go to Franklin Waynes website and click on showcases and go and see a band and then make up your mind.

I picked a dj over a band because I think they are more fun! Every wedding I went to that had a band I was pretty board.

We almost went the a band, but for $$ reasons, we went with a DJ. The band we WOULD have gotten would have been The Mystic. They're AMAZING. My MOH had them at her wedding. We had a blast! They have a website... check them out. They play at Hudson and McCoy in the summertime... along with other places. The female singer is friggin' AWESOME!
We went with Steve from "Then 'Til Now" for our DJ. He's great... and I feel like the type of music we discussed with him has that "live" feel, but with the benefit of having the real artists.  (and we saved about $4,000!).

We're using a band, FH insisted on it.
My feeling is that you just have to have good entertainment, DJ or Band. I've been to great weddings and horrible weddings with both types of entertainment.

we are using a band too- a franklin wayne band- heart and soul
if you can find a GREAT band- and there are many out there, they will be versatile! I love live music for a wedding. and with a really fabulous band you can't get bored...however there are great djs too- long island sound is really great! if i were using a dj they would be the ones

My husband wanted a band because he wanted to play with them. He plays guitar & he ended up writing \me a song which was cool. Our band was amazing--they sounded exactly like the original song did. I have had 3 people from my wedding book my band for theri wedding or recommend them to a friend who booked them. Their name is renegade & you can find them on liparamount.com. Amazing--the dance floor was packed all night & our guest were amazed with the songs they played. They know alot of music and can learn anything you want them to. They ahve a showcase once a month. We just didn't want to end up with a dj that made it seem like he was the center of the reception because we have been to some weddings where that happens. WIth everyone though it is different & you have to go with what you like. Our friends thought we were crazy when we said we booked a band but they were on the dance floor all night. There are three important things to every party, music, food & drinks--if you got the best of all three then everyone will have a great time.

FH and I decided on a DJ. The difference in the cost was huge and we really love the DJ that we booked. If you are interested in checking out some DJ companies, definitely check out Vinny from High Voltage. He has excellent reviews on here!!!

Bands are nice but I think we might go with a DJ. My FH says DJ only b/c he likes the fact that they can't mess up how the original song sounds. I agree with that!  If I hear of any good bands I will let you know. GOOD LUCK!

We went with Starlight Express DJ. Give them a call you can add on band pieces like a percussionist and stuff. It sounds great and then you kind of have both .

I really wanted a band, so did FH While I always have fun when there is a dj, to us, their is nothings like a live music! We are using Soul Revival . I saw them play and loved them! I cannot wait to have them play, I know they will make our wedding wonderful.

We booked a band. The weddings I have went to w/ DJ's were too much like Sweet 16's for us, but that could have just been the songs the couples had picked. Just not our taste.

I think both have pro's & cons. My FH's one thing he wanted was a band & his parents are paying so....
We booked Niteflight, they are awesome.
I'd check out some of the vendors on here & see when their showcases are & then see them in action.

I agree!!!!
They must not have had a great band. There are a lot of "cheesy" wedding bands,,,,,,,,but if you go with a good band, one that plays at bars and clubs in addition to playing at weddings, trust me, no one will be bored and the dance floor will be packed. There is nothing like live music at a wedding.

We are using a DJ, but depending on your budget, my friend had a band and a DJ andit was the perfect mix. This was about 5 years ago so I dont remember the names but maybe you can see if any bands offer both.
