NWR: Dealing with a coworker Edited for Update
Girls I need some help. Here's the situation: I work as an accountant at an engineering/architectural firm and we just recently moved from one floor to another. They placed me in one cubicle temporarly (the one i'm supposed to be in eventually is occupied at the moment, but that's not really important) At first I was in the cubicle by myself (two person cublices) and was fine with that. But two weeks ago they placed a mechanical engineer in the cubicle with me, with out warning, but I stopped caring about that part. I work with sensative numbers (salary rates and such) at times when invoicing and have a security screen over my monitor, which I've tilled at an angle so that people just passing by can't see what's on my screen. This is the only angle I can have it at. I don't really like the new guy sharing my cubicle ( he just has a bad vibe about him). He keeps sitting in the one spot that would enable him to see my monitor (which he does not have to sit in that particular spot to do his work). This makes me paranoid that he will see something that he shouldn't (confidentiality wise). Who should I approach with my concern, my supervisor, his supervisor, who I don't think will really understand my concerns as he is the one who placed the new guy in my cubicle in the first place, or HR? I don't think talking to him myself would really help the matter. Please help!
ETA: Just spoke to my supervisor and he's going to speak with HR in the morning to see what can be done to fix the situation. Thanks for all your advice.

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
are you able to place your monitor on another part of the desk so no one can see it? i would ask him why he is looking at your monitor, since there is nothing there he needs to see. nosey people are the worst

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
Defintiely your supervisor. Your boss should understand the sensitivity of the material on your screen. If it is meant to be confidential, then I almost think that you supervisor should have already doen something about this!

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
You should go to your supervisor first. Then your supervisor can approach his supervisor and they can deal with it together. If your supervisor doesn't do anything, then you can go to HR. That's the way it works here! Good luck!

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
I also agree go to your supervisor, If you go to this guys supervisor He will not understand the sensitive issue, if you go right to HR that is over stepping your supervisor, SO got to your supervisor 1st and take it from there

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
Def. tell your supervisor your concerns so they are aware. If this guy sees something he shouldn't and starts talking, it puts you at risk. Your supervisor should arrange for you to sit somewhere private in the short-term or speak to the "peeker" guys supervisor and work something out. Good Luck!

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker
I would speak to your supervisor. That will be the only person to understand how sensitive the material you deal with is. Good luck!

Re: NWR: Dealing with a coworker Edited for Update
Def. talk to your supervisor first. I had something like this go on at my old job. I went over my supervisor and that got me in more trouble for not approaching him about a situation first!
