Just checking. Because a post on the 07 board about renting dresses vs. wanting to pass your dress down to you daughter made me think. It would just be a keepsake then? She actually couldn't wear it?

you can have the dress worn again once you preserve it.

i believe preservation is actually recommended if you planned on passing it down since it stops the material from yellowing and keeps it clean and in the best condition possible. Plus, most preservation companies will put the dress is a special acid-free box that makes for easy storage

to have it preserved means to have it cleaned, pressed and boxed. so if you want your daughter to wear it, its in wearable condition.

I would personally never expect anyone to wear my gown. I know I have my own style and would expect my future kids would feel the same way.

Oh, I don't either, but I wouldhn't want to pass it down to my daughter only to find her get burned by chemicals because she tried it on out of curiousity. I come from a science background, so preserved to me means chemicals. I had no idea that the dress preservation process leaves the dress safe to wear.

its just a fancy way of saying dry-cleaned. yes, in the process there are chemicals involved, but not to the point where someone could get burned by it over 10 years later.

I think the key aspect of the process is that the box is airtight so that the dress is less likely to break apart or have other problems.

I agree with the other posters. You can certainly wear it again.

keep in mind that just because it's preserved, it's not guaranteed to not turn yellow. it is still possible. it's not completely airtight at all.
