Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
Calligraphy is too much, and paying for Lion in the Sun to do computer is expensive too, so we are going to do this on our own - anyone else do this?
what did you do? What did you use? How did you do it?

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I'm ideologically opposed to labels!
If going this route, I would much rather print directly on the envelope.
Also, try inkspun.com, they have good prices.
Don't do labels!!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
We are going to print directly onto the envelope. I practiced with my Save the Dates and it came out pretty well (once I got the hang of it).
You can go into Word and choose mail merge and then pick envelopes and they let you input the addresses and preview your envelopes.

I agree - I wouldn't do labels.
My FIL did our envelopes on his computer and they came out beautiful.

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
FOr my friends wedding 2 years ago we printed the address directly on the envelope using a calligraphy font with mail merge in word They came out great.
I don't like the labels for formal invitations it doesn't seem right.
Good Luck

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I am too scared to put my envelop thru a printer.. jam or so forth. I am using clear labels. My sister went this route and her invites looked pretty. I may even use silver to match my silver seals. My colors are blue and silver.
I used gold for my sisters Baby shower and hte invited looked fancy, I got a lot of compliments on them.

I am doing left adjusted labels, inspired by these:

ETA: with embossed return address on the flap, because I love talking about my embosser!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
We tried to print directly on the envelopes, but it got to complicated and the printer ate two envelopes on me so we opted for the labels.
I bought clear labels and did them with dark blue ink (same color as invites) and I think they came out just fine.
You just have to play around a bit on word to make sure all is lined up correctly. It took me a few hourse, but in the end they were perfect.
At first I was so against labels, but after my breakdown from trying to print right on the envelopes I thought, the person(s) will look at the writing for 2 seconds, see its for them, open the invite and toss the envelope. So in my opinion, its not worth going crazy over. Just do the labels.

I just got an invite in the mail for my childhood guy friend's wedding with clear labels. Did not make a difference to me! Still was a great invite. Do what you want. You can't please 'em all!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I did clear labels and they also came out great. My suggestion is to be very large labels, so that you can have a large, nice font on the front.
Screw the people who tell you it wasn't proper. I didn't have the time or energy to run 100 invites individually in my printer so they wouldn't get screwed up.

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I am getting ready to address my STDs and plan to print directly on the envelopes...I too do not like teh look of labels - but I think it is totally one of those things that matters to soem people and not to others - so it is entirely up to you which way you prefer to do it...But, I am getting nervous now that everyoen is talking about these horror stories of printing on teh envelopes....How do I make sure I get it to work right???

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I used clear labels only b/c I embossed the envelopes (with our monogram in the back) and I was afraid of screwing up!
My SIL did hers directly on the envelope..and she had to order another 25 more b/c of the mess ups!

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
Do some practice one's first and do them one at a time. It may be tedious but you are more assured it will come out right.
Good Luck and in my opionion it is definately worth doing the envelopes

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
We already had our labels on the computer from our STDs. We were using the word program, with black lettering. (Black is one of our wedding colors) But then FH decided to 'upgrade' the computer and it crashed. So, at the last minute we hand printed all our invites. Boy, I wish we could've used the clear labels. Now we'll use them for the Thank yous.

Re: Anyone using clear labels and a computer printer for invitations?
I was 100% against labels until recently. I found invites I LOVE and they are made of silk paper. The envelopes are so thick it wont fit into any printer, and I tried 3 different ones. I wasnt spending the extra money on a calligrapher when there are some many more expenses down the road. So I needed to make the decision of changing my invite or dealing with the labels. I printed one out on a clear label and to my suprise it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I dont love it but after thinking about it, I doubt anyone will even notice. So if it is easier for you, less money, and you like it, then do it. I do think the clear labels are much more LESS noticable than the white ones. Do the font big enough so it covers most of the label as well. Good luck!

I agree. Out of all the invites you send, maybe 4 people will think about the label. Do you really care about pleasing those petty people?
A label isn't going to change the fact that you are getting married on the BEST.DAY.EVER.
