Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)

I had a postal worker go “Postal” on me this weekend.
I went to the Post office to buy my stamps for the invites & to inquire about hand canceling. Well they weight & measure my invites it turns out my invitations require a .87 cent stamp, but they did not have an .87 cent stamp, she tells me I have to buy an .80 cent stamp, plus a .05 cent stamp and .02 cent stamp, well I absolutely did not want this I really think it would look silly and sloppy having 3 different stamps on my invites, so she say well that’s all there is because the next postage after that is the $1 stamp. To which I respond I’ll take them, I figure why not, what’s $16.90 more at this point, if it means my invites will not look sloppy. Well she almost fell over her chair and she went on for about 15 minutes ( literaly) about how she could not believe that I was about to spend $13 extra dollar ( she didn’t do the math right) on a piece of paper that no one will care about and just throw out. And that she thought big weddings were a waste of money and that if she was me she would just go to Vegas, and I said well I am going to Vegas… for my BP, well at that point she starts telling her co-workers how ridiculous that is that I am spending the equivalent of a down payment n a house for my BP…at this point I was confused and thought she heard me wrong so I asked her how much she thought a trip to Vegas was and she said at least $500, well I am unaware of any house out there that I can buy with a $500 down payment but WHATEVER) so then her male co-worker says that what about my fiancé and I said he is going to Vegas as well but on a different weekend, and he says well I hope you are okay with what he is going to do in Las Vegas…***!!!! Then asks me how old I am and I say why and she says because only young people go crazy and spend money on a big weddings, that again she would just go to Vegas.
All this caught me by surprise that I didn’t react the way I would normally react to rude people, I kinda just stood there with a confused look on my face, I wish I had reacted better and told them to mind there own business and stop raining on my parade!
Oh and I forgot she also told me to call my fiancé before buying the $1 stamps because she was sure that when I told him I was spending an extra .13cents per invite that he would think I was crazy and be mad at me….I don’t think so I told her.
I was really pissed off because I went I to the post office so happy on Saturday morning so excited that I was buying my invite stamps, and she made me feel silly & frivouolous!! Anyway I just need to vent because even though I know that some people may be financially better off than others it does not give them the right to tell them what to do and what not to do with their money.
Anyway to top off my wonderful Saturday I got trapped in my building’s elevator for about 10 minutes which wasn’t that scary …….the scary part was that after a few minutes the elevator started dropping 1 ½ floors really fast then stopping and coming back up and dropping again until it finally let me out on the 8th floor (I live on the 12th) I took the stairs after that.
Needless to say I am happy its Monday!!
I am appalled that this person was so rude and then tried to get coworkers to chime in on it For some reason weddings bring out the WORST in people Sorry you had to deal with such a witch. Do not allow her comments to get to you. Vegas weddings are fine for some but that is not what you wanted and it’s not like you asked HER to pay for it
You should alert the building manager about the elevator. Glad you are safe

Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)
She's just jealous that you are having a nice wedding and going on a great BP.
I wish you only needed $500 for a down payment on a house. Some people don't think.
The extra $13 (as she computed) was worth it because now you just have to put one stamp on your envelope instead of spending a lot more time putting on 3.
Some people need to keep their opinions to themselves.
ETA: My old building had a horrible elevator, I hear your pain. I only got stuck in it briefly but, it was enough time to cause panic. It was right after it plunged down into the basement from the first floor with a number of people in it.

Oh my - what a horrible way to spend part of a Saturday afternoon. I would call the post office and ask to speak to the postmaster in charge, and let him know about his employees' bad behavior!!!

I thought of this, but I'm scared that when I go tomorrow to have my invites hand cancelled, I'll end up at her window again and she'll give me a hard time if I report her.

I'd rather get her in trouble - what is she going to say to you if she's been reprimanded? Nothing - and if she does open her mouth again, just put in another complaint. Is there another post office that you could go to if you just want to avoid this person all together?

I live in the city and the next post office is kind of far considering that I would be waliking with 130 invites, and they are so heavy after they are all assembled. Maybe I'll report her after she is done hand canceling my invites

Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)
definitely ridiculous. people suck. Why do they think you care about THEIR views on weddings?!?! You're going there to mail your invitations. Someone else said it's jealousy... DEFINITELY. And she was just being rude and selfish by saying things that would embarrass you (for no reason) and bringing other people in on it. You should DEFINITELY report her. The Post Office is no different from Macy's or CVS... you're a CUSTOMER. (And I don't blame you for not wanting a mosaic of stamps on your envelope. You should stuff something else in there to get your money's worth. lol).
Sorry about the elevator, too! You should go for a massage or something!

Aww Thank you . But I kinda wish I had reacted the way you said you would. You know when someone is mean or rude to you and you don’t defend yourself but like 10 minutes later you think of 20 different things you could have said but didn’t think of it at the time, well that’s how I feel.

Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)
I can not believe the nerve of her! HOW RUDE! I had an issue buying stamps for my STD's. I wanted the blue bird ones that make a heart and they only had 1 sheet at my post office so I said well I guess I"ll just take plain ones then. I then remember that there is another post office 2 min away!! I ended up buying double the amt of stamps I really needed cause i got plain ones and the bird ones. Oh well...

WOW I can not believe that someone would say that! What a miserable person. She only wishes that she had someone special enough to marry and have a nice, beautiful wedding!
BTW, I would have done the same thing with the stamp, so this woman behind the counter was just being extremely rude!!! What comes around goes around, and she will get what she deserves!
I can't wait to send my invites and get all the responses back - your going to love this time.

Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)
First of all, what business of hers is it what you spend. Did she forget that the post office is a revenue producing entity? Did she not want to sell anything more?
Secondly, I would go to another post office..get your invites hand canceled and then go back to your post office and put in a formal complaint about her to her boss. Put it in writing.
How unprofessional of her to do that. If we acted that way in our jobs we would certainly be unemployed. Maybe she needs to consider a job that doesn't require social skills. Maybe that should be your in your letter as a recommendation to her boss.

Thanks, I saw that, but unfortunately we already bougth & stamped our invites. They actually look really nice with the $1 stamp, and it has the statue from Rockerfeller which I kind of think its appropriate since I live in the city Although no one will probably make the association except for a crazy bride to be like me

Re: Postal vent !!!(sorry very long)
That's just rude!!!! I spent almost DOUBLE because I wanted personalized stamps!! I wonder what that biatch would say about that??
I agree with Darlene, I would file a complaint with the postmaster of that branch.
Maybe you can have your invites brought to a post office near your job instead of your home? It doesn't really take long even if you hand cancel them yourself!
